Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 12 Sep 06 - 05:18 PM Oh, why no band Louise? I really enjoyed you all last time. I hope you are going to sing without them... Any chance of you persuading your Dad to come this time?? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Louisey Date: 13 Sep 06 - 03:17 AM Slight change of plan, Sonja can't make it, so I expect my Dad can be persuaded to come along with me - and yes, I hope to be singing!! Louise |

Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MuddleC Date: 20 Sep 06 - 08:04 PM Well, it is today where I am, but it's still yesterday for some people, so for those people flying in from the west of the Principality of Rockall, it's tomorrow!!! |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Emma B Date: 20 Sep 06 - 08:15 PM it's today here - suppose I ought to be getting my visa in order - see you later D.V. |

Hope it is a great evening! Enjoy! Love to everyone ... "Dancing and singing, bell ringing!" Alan |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 22 Sep 06 - 02:46 AM Well up to now I'd have said the two June sessions where we sang outside were the best, but last night was really good. More musicians and instruments than we've ever had, with a scattering of good singing too. Thanks to everyone who came and we hope to see you again next time, which will be the Yuletide session on December 21st. On top of the great music last night, the pub actually had a choice of TWO good ciders!!!! Must be almost unique amongst Midlands village pubs. See you in December? Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Fortunato Date: 22 Sep 06 - 08:32 PM Leicester, NC 9/22/06 I'm now spending all the time I can in our second home on Hanlon MT in Leicester, NC. Seeing your thread makes me wonder if we mightn't have a kind of musical exchange. We play, as Leadfingers can tell you, Old time country music. Any ideas? chance |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 23 Sep 06 - 05:06 AM Sounds cool! What does NC stand for? I'll have to ponder the thought. As our session is a kind of small, three monthly informal one, perhaps we could have a sort of small, informal reverse Getaway? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: John MacKenzie Date: 23 Sep 06 - 06:42 AM North Carolina, Lynne. It's in the US of A, you'll need to save your pennies Giok |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Cllr Date: 23 Sep 06 - 06:46 AM I couldnt make it on thursday to (although i did make Fortunato's last year (Hi chance)so either is good! Cllr |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Sep 06 - 06:53 AM Thursday Quarter session was great fun - Only marred by me sideswiping a 44 ton truck on Friday morning and writing off ANOTHER car !! And a session with Fortunato and company would be great fun too !! |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 23 Sep 06 - 04:24 PM I was thinking of Fortunato coming over here, not the other way round. I don't have any pennies to save at the moment. Unemployment benefits don't really allow one to zoom off to the states very often. Oh dear Terry! I take it you are ok? It was a good evening wasn't it? Sorry I didn't see you on Friday morning before you left. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Fortunato Date: 23 Sep 06 - 09:56 PM MBS Lynne, yes, I was thinking of coming to see you as well and other esteemed personages in the UK and, of course, time and money permiting you and others of your persuasion would come to NC (North Carolina). Hello Clr, Leadfingers, et al. We'll we'll ponder it... all the best. A perverse, ah, inverse Getaway has a nice sound to it. cheers, chance |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 24 Sep 06 - 06:27 AM Sounds great to me! Let us know as much in advance as you can so we can be sure of arranging something at the right time. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Paul Burke Date: 25 Sep 06 - 04:17 AM My brother Terence is heading for Asheville NC in the next few weeks, via a trek down the Appalachian Trail. PM me with contacts and I'll try to get in touch with him, he's going to see someone about hats. BTW how do you pronounce 'Leicester' over there? |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 25 Sep 06 - 08:30 AM I wondered that too Paul. When my friend and I were doing the Aussie tourist bit and hitching round Britain and Europe, we met several Americans who called our Leicester Lie-chester. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MuddleC Date: 25 Sep 06 - 01:11 PM It's not their fault that they can't speak proper English, after all, they haven't had proper lessons since 1776 (jus being ornery) At last I have a band, although they didn't care for my variable speed redition of 'The Fields of Athenry'!!! |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 25 Sep 06 - 02:45 PM We TRIED to go at your speeds! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 05 Dec 06 - 04:16 PM Helloooooooooooooo! The next quarter session will be held in the Turk's Head in Donisthorpe on Thursday 21st December at 8.00. A good time to get out your Christmas songs and tunes I should think! I have to warn you that Paul, the landlord has stopped keeping Old Rosie and Westons organic because they have become too expensive. I'll see if he can get a small quantity in for the session if anyone else is interested in helping me drink it? So...who's up for it this time? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MuddleC Date: 05 Dec 06 - 07:12 PM where the hell did those three months go? -wot? no 'old rosie'..... hmmmmmm |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 06 Dec 06 - 02:52 AM No, it's a b*gger isn't it? Makes it not worth going out for a drink in the village for me any more. I don't like beer and Strongbow is...well...strongbow. It's all the fault of this horrible Magners stuff making 'cider' popular and shoving the price up. C u there anyway though Tim? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MuddleC Date: 06 Dec 06 - 12:49 PM 'magners is to real cider as 'lager' is to real ale' -discuss calculators may be used |

Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Emma B Date: 13 Dec 06 - 06:38 PM if you're "indoor camping" Terry - as few as possible! |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 14 Dec 06 - 03:15 AM Well we don't have Ted's band this time, or at least not some of it, so we may be relying heavily on you for instrumentalism! Don't forget the length of the walk to the pub! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: alanww Date: 14 Dec 06 - 06:01 AM "Getting closer! And we don't have to get up the following morning cos the kids are on holiday! Who else is up for it? Paul? Alan? Love Lynne" ... Sorry Lynne, I cannot make it! I am committed to play for the Black Jacks Borders Morris team that night! Wassail & enjoy! "My uncle Billy had a ten-foot ...!" Alan |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MuddleC Date: 15 Dec 06 - 12:30 PM still not forgiven pub for having no real cider... that's my solstice ruined... will have to dip toast in something else... perhaps empty the tutu into the ceiling...... |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 15 Dec 06 - 02:30 PM Hehe! Most people won't have a clue what you are talking about Tim! I haven't forgiven them either...I don't drink anything else in pubs. I shall have to be on water! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Emma B Date: 20 Dec 06 - 07:21 PM It's tomorrow! YEAH! Weather permitting from here |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Paul Burke Date: 21 Dec 06 - 03:26 AM Tonight! And the Solipstice too! I'll have to dip into my stock of Solipsist songs, like "If I were the only girl in the world". |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 21 Dec 06 - 04:31 AM Oh dear...the weather's not looking too good this end! It's thick fog and has been like it for two days. While I'm really looking forward to a good sing and jovial company, I will understand if all you who come from a long distance can't make it due to the weather. I'd rather have you safe and absent than otherwise. Do take care! Actually, I think the solstice is tomorrow Paul...it varies a day or two from one year to the next. Definitely still a solstice sing though. Yuletide was always a solstice celebration originally and covered a week. As far as we are concerned, the solstice is the real start of our Yuletide celebrations. See as many of you as possible tonight! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Leadfingers Date: 21 Dec 06 - 06:03 AM I shall have e VERY leisurely drive up this afternoon ! With a car full of instruments ! See yoy later . |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 21 Dec 06 - 08:47 AM Take it VERY carefully Terry! See you later Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Paul Burke Date: 22 Dec 06 - 03:25 AM Polly G's. I did an icyroad slide in the van going home from work, and didn't feel like risking the trip down. Hope it went well. |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 22 Dec 06 - 10:06 AM We missed you Paul, but I'm glad you are safe. Don't blame you for not risking the weather...I was quite worried about everyone driving here. I hadn't actually expected many people in view of the horrible conditions, but in the event, I think we had more people than we've ever had! As usual It was a really great session with a good variety of singers and musicians, and once again, totally different from all the sessions which have gone before. Just by the way, it was actually our second anniversary. I do wish people would stop apologising..."I'm sorry, this isn't really folk". I don't give a bu**er what it is as long as it's music and you are playing and singing it yourself. After all, it's never been called a folk session has it? We had something from "Smells like teen spirit" by Nirvana. We had "Sweet child of mine".We also had some trad and modern 'folk' tunes and songs. It was all great. See you in March...round about the equinox probably Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Dec 06 - 11:46 AM It was a fun evening ! The drive up was hairy , But I left myself plenty of time ! Drove on afterwards to nightstop with my old Mum and am now safe back home ! |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 23 Dec 06 - 06:58 PM Glad to hear you got back sagfely Terry! And glad you enjoyed it! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: MBSLynne Date: 03 Mar 07 - 09:10 AM Hello again!!! The next Donisthorpe session will be held on Thursday March 22nd at the Turk's Head in Donisthorpe at 8pm. We now seem to have a small core of regulars and it would be nice to see some of the other people we've had over the last couple of years and also some new ones.So....who's up for it? With any luck the weather will be better than it was for the last one! And we can celebrate the vernal equinox at the same time! See you there? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: NW Leicestershire Quarter Session From: alanww Date: 07 Mar 07 - 11:55 AM Sorry Lynne, I cannot make it this time either, more's the pity! I'm going in the opposite direction and will be on my way down to Somerset for a concertina weekend! Enjoy! "Come all ye bold heroes ..!" Alan |
