We are thinking of going to New Zealand for an extended holiday. Have any Mudcatters gone there and gigged? Any info would be appreciated on clubs , festivals, dos and donts.
Do you need a work permit?

Where do you live? (Australians don't need work permits)

Little Robyn's advice is good - that's a good site. Rest assured that a) there are Catters here - me for one - and b) there's tons of live music going on - some of it very good indeed.

Plus you have the usual NZ advantages of scenery, sun, sea, sheep, and lots of luvverly people (not necessarily in that order....). Come along, it's only a plane ride and you won't want to go home, believe me, I know!

Who you meet will depend on where you end up. If you want to come to Wellington area, let me know via PM and I'll try, as a relative newcomer to let you know what's going on.

All good stuff so far. Thanks folks.
We are in the UK and are thinking of staying for 8/10 weeks from Jan 2007. I know it sounds a long way ahead but we have to start saving!
The plan is to offset some of the costs by doing a few gigs to enable us to stay a while.
My wife is the performer and has been a guest at lots of festival in the UK. Me, I just carry the guitar.

If you are around the Coventry area, have a chat with Pete Grassby. He came here 3 summers ago, and then 2 summers ago, and he's coming this summer.....
I think he likes the Auckland Festival. At the end of January.
Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies are coming in February.

Pete was here at the beginning of this year - he joined us on the Piper's tour of the south island and we wound up at the Auckland Folk Festival. He'll be back soon.
