Subject: Silver in the stars and Gold in the... From: windpower@davesworld.net Date: 18 Jan 99 - 04:42 AM My dad passed away a few years ago. Before he died he sang my mother a song. She wrote down the words but we don't know where the song came from. If anyone knows what this song is and who it's by please e-mail me. Thanks Andrew - windpower@davesworld.net here's some of the lyrics: "I am just a poor/country? boy, money have I none. But I've got silver in the stars and gold in the setting sun." |

CHORUS I never could afford a store-bought ring, With a sparkling diamond stone. All I could afford is a loving heart, The only one I own, 'Cause... CHORUS |

Subject: RE: Silver in the stars and Gold in the... From: Allan S. Date: 18 Jan 99 - 10:05 AM Don't forget the verses: Poor little turtle dove, sitting on a pine, Longing for her true love as I shall for mine, for mine, As I shall for mine. I came down the mountainside. I gave my horn a blow. Everywhere them pretty little girls said, "Yonder goes my beau, My beau, yonder goes my beau." I have it in a collection of songs that I put together in the early 1950's at U-Conn. I called it "Poor Turtle Dove" Don't seem to find is in any of the books I have. Think I learned it from Gene Patten at U-Conn Late from Peace Valley, MO A great courting song to sing to the ladies....Ah Youth.
