If you mean the song by Police these are they........

Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon

Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play

Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk forever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Some may say
I'm wishing my days away
No way
And if it's the price I pay
Some say
Tomorrow's another day
You stay
I may as well play

Keep it up, keep it up

I presume the one by Sting

Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk for ever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon

Some may say
I'm wishing my days away, no way
And if it's the price I pay, some say
Tomorrow's another day, you'll stay
I may as well play

Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk for ever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Some may say
I'm wishing my days away no way
And if it's the price I pay, some say
Tomorrow's another day, you'll stay
I may as well play

I went for a job interview, and when they asked if I had a police record I said "Yes..."

"Walking on the Moon"

Isn't this a folk music site?

So what IS dreaded 'f-word' music? (cue not so distant clatter of hooves + Mr Armstrong). If you ask ME (OK, no-one did), the works of Mr Sumner have a lot more do do with 'folk music' than a lot of the tripe that pitches up on here purporting to be it, but isn't.

"We work the black seam together", could well be mistaken for a traditional song if sung in a folk club.

"We Work The Black Seam" isn't "The Police"...

It's on "Dream Of The Blue Turtles" isn't it? After Andy and Stewart wised up and shook him off....

You are right, of course Clinton. I think the Police were a stunningly original pop group and they were probably the right thing for all the musicians to be doing at the time.
I guess we all get older and move on to things which are better suited to our current age. I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with wanting to sing songs about lusting for young women when you are in your twenties. I just reckon it would sound a little bizarre if you were still doing it into your middle age.
In some respects, Sting is a little less fortunate than you or I. I would not like it if someone were to unearth one of my seventies or eighties recordings and to play it on the radio now!

I think "The Police" are possibly the best ever 3 piece band... But they sure as hell weren't 'folk'

Point taken. We will just have to see which songs still get sung in a few years time. I like to think some of them will make it.

Walking on the Moon
Written by: Tom Russell, Katy Moffatt
CD: Tom Russell - The Long Way Around

Intro D

D                G         A             D
The lights of the town were just shutting down
    G       A            D
The sun was fresh on the rise
                   G                A          D
I met momma at the door, she'd been walking the floor
         G                            A
She said boy, you've got stars in your eyes
                D             G         A
And momma I was walking on the moon last night
    G          A            D
And two loving arms held me tight
       D            G         A
As the stars danced around so bright
      G             A         D
I was walking on the moon last night

    D             G                     A               D
Now momma she did weep, boy you've been walking in your sleep
    G               A          D
You can't keep your feet on the ground
                        G            A             D
It's not always what it seems, young love may be a dream
         G                            A
And some angels fly high just to fall down

                D             G         A
But momma I was walking on the moon last night
    G          A            D
And two loving arms held me tight
       D            G         A
As the stars danced around so bright
      G             A         D
I was walking on the moon last night

Solo D G A G A D D G A G A D

       D             G       A             D
Now the lights of the town are glowing yellow brown
    G         A          D
The moon is beginning to rise
                        G                  A         D
And I left momma at the door, I said don't worry any more
          G                                  A
I've seen daddy put those same stars in your eyes

                  D             G      A
And momma I'll be walking on the moon tonight
    G          A                D
And two loving arms will hold me tight
       D          G         A
As the stars dance around so bright
       G             A      D
I'll be walking on the moon tonight

            D             G      A
And I'll be walking on the moon tonight
    G          A                D
And two loving arms will hold me tight
       D          G         A
As the stars dance around so bright
       G             A      D
I'll be walking on the moon tonight

It is perhaps worth mentioning that it was the title track of Katy Moffatt's 'Walking on the moon' Philo CD PH 1128 a decade (1989) before her recording with Russell on 'The Long Way Around' (1999).

My apologies, not quite a decade - 'The Long Way Around' was issued 1997, not 1999 as I indicated above.
