Subject: Where'd The Thread Go??????
From: GUEST,Anonny Mouse
Date: 02 Jan 06 - 10:48 PM

Hey-where's that thread I started 'bout "Heres to MG & Mudcat 2005" that was gettin' into the Harmony and Stella company in Chicago? It was in the BS section like an hour ago and vanished-did a 3 day refresh or whatever and didn't come up? I had a fella I know who HAs an old Stella and wanted to ask whats the best place to get $$ for it like MG mentioned since it has "steel reinforced" on it. What happened to the thread anyhow-somebody erase it or something?

The purpose of that thread was to antagonize, plant seeds for an argument or shclock certain people ... even though there were some posts trying to sway it away from it's original intentions.

I agree ... I was rather interested in those guitar posts myself ... there was another thread that was chopped that was rude and offensive in title .. to which I tried swaying it off topic immediately ... but anyway, quite rightfully so it was censored as it would have caused a certain uproar if not an outright riot, which we don't need here.

Quote 6: "The purpose of that thread was to antagonize, plant seeds for an argument or shclock certain people ... even though there were some posts trying to sway it away from it's original intentions."

well as I started it it wasn't that at all that I could see; just started cause I shared some similar opinions on the KT with M Gibson in that Influencial Album thing in the music section and was being polite (I thought?) and it got into some guitar talk near the end although a coupla people posted some insults along the way. So being new and all what did I know? Not much I guess. So is there some list of rules someplace I missed or something? Is this my fault---if so sorry. But id like to know the deal if it isn't some big insult to me. Whats the schlock people refer to? I wasnt schlocking anybody. But whoever let that "pigf*****" thing stay (????)

Ya ... sorry I shouldn't say it was your purpose. Just seems people get all worked up about certain things, always dragging on about something that is useless ... forget about it Anonny ... personally I wouldn't censor anything ... if you don't like something don't bother with it .. throw in another subject or something.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't think the thread title was offensive and frankly, there have been many other threads that were MUCH more disturbing. The conversation in the MG thread was getting interesting...guitar info for a newbie and everything! The pigf**king comment was out of line but that can be overlooked just like all the other drivel and name calling that takes place at Mudcat. The only thing I can think is that someone said something after the guitar stuff about Stellas and Kays....and I missed it. Damn. :P

Seriously, what happened to that thread...why was it deleted? Curious minds want to know.

Michelle

PS. Hiya Mousey...how goes it?

Your correct Michelle ... there are other threads that are more offensive ... I guess the problem is 'offensive to who'.

Hi Michelle. Not so hot as I'm kinda upset bout this right now 'cause no one offers any reason, but yours might be right. But cant a really horrible post be "excised" and the rest left>? I did try to offer some suggestions to you on guitars so nothin wrong with that I presume. I was thinkin' of joining here but now I'm not so sure. If some post after the Stellas/Kay things was really bad why dont they just ditch that???? Other boards do that. Who's the head guy round here anyway?

If there was an offesive post in a thread they can delete it .. seen it done here before.

I really don't know what's going on.

Well, the thing is, MG does seem to incite ignorance for many...just the sight of his name and they can't control themselves. There was a thread here not long ago about someone who was depressed and was seeking help. Martin suggested that this person seek professional help. Several others suggested the same thing yet MG got blasted for it. Why? Because he's Martin Gibson I guess...who knows?

Mousey..go on and join the site...you don't have to agree with everyone or anyone for that matter....there is always something interesting to read about regardless of if you want to post or not. If you join, then folks can send you a PM (private message) and you can PM others. If you had wanted to talk more to say Brucie about his stylin' and profilin' guitar that he dropped two stories down to the ground, then you can write to him directly. :)

Don't let this upset your applecart...it ain't nuthin. ;)

Don't go, annony.. I'm really surprised that it was taken out. I know that there are still some who have a strong negative reaction to Martin Gibson but as others have said, there've been plenty of threads far more offensive that went on forever. This seems more like an abberation, although sometimes those who monitor the threads see such much obnoxious stuff that they have to repeatedly censor that they finally probably get fed up with it.

Truth is (I think) this place is far more civil and positive than it was for the last couple of years, and disagreements have been darned near civil most of the time.

When you start a thread, it's like kicking a baby out of the nest. You never know what's going to happen. I had threads highjacked occasinally in the lousy old days that went so far off kilter that I wish they would have been closed. That didn't appear to be the case with yours..

Jerry

I agree with you 100% LilyFestre ... 100%.

even defending Martin will incite certain attacks and set off the riot alarm.

It's like a family here Mousie ... and like a family it has it's problems but ya all work through them.

Sometimes there are posts that get removed before most people see them - and we are lucky for that.

Was it that bad jerry ... being relatively new ... I have only heard about the 'good old day.actually I think it's pretty good here now, why else am I hooked to this place ... sure, there are some pretty heated arguments and mud slingin ... but as I mentioned, we're all family.

But then why is it that sometimes only the offensive posts are removed from a thread....not the entire erasure of a thread such has occured in this instance? Makes no sense.

Maybe ... just maybe ... it fell into a 'technical' black hole ... there were some problems getting access to the MC at about the time it vaporized.

Thanks for the input so far but I'm not very enlightened. I got the pic that MartinGibson was some kinda lightning rod but being new and all how ya supposed to know that?? And as I said he was polite to me and I agreed with the one thread I started with here that he posted on--one of my fav groups from back when so I gave him a tip o' the hat thats all. Like I said if my thread title got someone ticked it wasnt some calculated thing on my part y'know? I said I dont react much to being name-called or whatever as it is after all cyber space. But if I see this thread is gone tomorrow I'm gonna get real suspicious. Im on a coupla forums so I know about the way things work and usually if something is erased or whatever whoever did it for whatever reason usually says why it got deleted. Guess that's whats got me wonderin'. Not sayin' Im leaving---just asking a question thats all.

...because sometimes Joe Offer has other things to do, like clean up the messes we have around here.
I've been gone the last week, and I see there has been some trouble here.   Martin Gibson has been on the prowl again, and I've been busy deleting his messages. Since Martin is such a problem, we don't allow threads about him at all. So that thread, and a few others, got deleted.
I'm sorry, but I can't discuss all my editing decisions. I do the best I can, and that's all I can do. I'm sure some of you will disagree with some of my decisions, but that's how the cookie crumbles.
When we are in a period of unrest and unpleasantness, my editing is more severe.

Anony Mouse, a good place to start reading is in the FAQ threads.

Joe is not the owner of this site - Max is - but Joe is the hands on guy who follows policy and is the one the joeclones check with. Plus he is very accessible via personal message. I'm not sure that a guest can PM anyone but there are plenty of members on this thread who can.

For that matter, you might be interested in beoming a member- it's easy, fast and free.

One important thing to keep in mind is that Joe Offer is a volunteer; he is not paid to do his job- so please don't require him to 'be on the job' as a paid moderator might be.

On this thread and on the MG and Mudcat thread there are several posters who appear to think Martin is cute. It is not for me to wonder out loud about where they are coming from- different strokes for different folks, as they say. You too are welcome to consider his antics 'cute', if that's what you wnat to do- just don't expect *everybody* to respect your judgment for it.
The question from Anonny Mouse was answered. Since I have no desire for this thread to become yet another Martin Gibson discussion, this thread is closed. If you want to talk about guitars, go to a guitar thread - and talk about guitars in it. This one (click), started by Martin Gibson, is a good one.
    Thank you.
-Joe Offer, Forum Moderator, who wrote the policy-
