Hi I'll be visiting Florida (Orlando) area from march 22- April 5th. Anyone out there know of any folkfests happening then? Or perhaps a site I can surf to find out. Am willing to travel! Cheers! nancy

Hi Nancy Try www.foff.org for festival dates in florida...That particular weekend is a festival in Dade City, a short hop from Orlando. It is the Old Time Music Championships...harpgirl

If you are going to be heading back north over Memorial Day weekend, this is the Florida Folk Festival site:

http://www.flheritage.com/folkfest/

I have only gone to this one twice, but it is quite an event.

Hey, Harpgirl,

Have you ever attended the Sunshine State Acoustic Music Camp in St Pete? We may have met.

Hey BBJ, I haven't gone yet but I know Charlie Groth pretty well, as well as many of the folks who regularly attend and do workshops such as Cheryl Belanger, Jan Milner and Robin Plitt (I think Robin does workshops) as well as Rima Olson. In fact I keep meaning to beg Charley to let me do an autoharp workshop or acapella singing so I can attend without having to pay the fees! I noticed you were from the area. We probably have met. Look for me at Dade City this year...and are you a Friends of Florida Folk member? I've been in the Florida Folk Festival for the last few years and hope to be playing with the DoneyGals this year again. It is alot of fun and a friendly event...

And Doug and Ellie are very active in the event, too. I have gone twice now, and it is the best $100 I have ever spent. Good instructors in a beautiful setting, and the nightly jam sessions are superb. But Celtic music is not that well represented, and I could use a kindred spirit.

Nancy, not to leave you out, this event is held in the late summer each year. It is usually advertised on the foff site harpgirl mentioned. (And, yes, I too am a foff member. Banjo, mandolin, lap dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, guitar, harmonica, fiddle, singing, and songwriting sessions are all held.
