Is it just me or do other people have difficulty accessing the Mudcat site and the messages contained therein?
I am using a state of the art (well 12 months old!) iMac but it often takes ages to connect to the site and then I often lose interest in reading the messages as it takes so long for them to open.
I do not have this problem with other sites so any suggestions might be helpful unless it is something that happens to everyone.

Happens to everyone at various times. Some problems that the site administrators are aware of and looking at. FYI.

Nooki: (love the handle!)

The limiting factors are (1) the bandwidth of your connection to the internet (2) the load on the Mudcat server at any point in time (3) the mood of the Mudcat server at any point.

Of these (3) is most often blamed for difficulties! :D

What it means is that Max has found time to do some substantial work on the servers. He says it may take several days, so hold tight. Keep checking - Mudcat will probably be up and down over the next few days.

Joe ... thanks for the update. I figured that the problem was my problem brother ... again. He just left this morning from an overnight visit. With his well known, and documented I might add, history, things tend to go to hell in a hand basket whenever he arrives. They also tend to descend if he even THINKS about visitng us! But anyway, he's safely (for us) away and heading back to where he calls home.

So, can I assume that in the near future ... my "log on" connection will function again ... I will be back in the money ... and that my bro will stay away for another year or two? CHEERS, Bob

Not yet, Bob.
Max says this may take a few days, off and on.
And your brother called and said he heard you missed him, so he turned around and will be staying at your house for another week...

Thanks for the info, Joe, being an IT near-illiterate I sometimes wonder whether it is me doing something wrong (often enough it IS) so your reassurance is very welcome.

I for one appreciate the work Max puts in, and I'm grateful for the result.

When the 'Cat is up and running again, do a search on the Tech threads and you'll find lots of tips and discussion of devices and programs that will help you keep your computer in good working order.

I can't log on as member from home any more (I can from other computers). I believe the problem is in my computer, as I've switched to dial-up to save money. When I try to reset my cookie the computer freezes and I have to shut it off. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Hi there, thanks for the "reception".You ask what took me to France for my home.Well,I come from Hamstead,London.I was married to a French lady, then we decided to up and leave London co's I had a heavy breakdown.Got to Paris, got to know the city etc.Slowly made progress headwise(still not out of it wholly)then formed a duo. This was in '79 by the way.End of duo,end of wife.New lady, still together.I just finished putting down some songs, got to sort out some paper work before it can be put around. But having said that, half the students at The Royal Colledge Of Art London, own it already.Sorry to waffle on here.Anyway, finding this site is good for me and I appreciate your interest, thanks.
ps:My songs don't last as long as this message.
Cheers
David

Warning! Thread Drift:

Hello David.

Upthread you said to me "Have a nice whatever it is where you are".
Thanks. As a matter of information, I'm from the USA and for 38 years have lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania {home of today's football playoff winners-though I must confess I'm not a sports fan and {dare I say it???} I didn't know that the Steelers were in the playoffs, and I didn't know which team they were playing against, and I didn't even watch the game}.

There! I confessed my sins. I hope I can be forgiven!!

;o)

Best wishes,

Ms. Azizi

Cool Beans -

The most likely may be just that sometimes when you "change pages" on mudcat, if traffic is heavy or if the server's in a bad mood, the first packet gets sent, then the request for the rest of the new page sits in line until traffic that got in the way is processed. This can look like you're "hung" when you're really not, and the solution is just to wait. In some cases the message really did just get "lost," so try as much patience as reasonable. When you click-to-send the login, the message may be just waiting in line due to the traffic.

If you have a noisy dialup connection, sometimes the send seems to break the connection, especially if there's heavy traffic on the 'phone line. Unless it's obvious in your own setup, there's not much you can do about a bad phone line except complain to the phone co (and/or to your ISP). Sometimes there are alternate phone numbers you can use to dial in to your ISP that may work better.

In most browsers, you can enter the name of a site and give it "special permission" to always work nice. You probably should do that for mudcat. If you happen to use Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" on the top toolbar, then on "Internet Options." Select the "Privacy" tab, and click the "Sites" button. Type "mudcat.org" (without the quotes) in the little box, and hit the "allow" button. This should assure that your browser will never get in the way of exchanging cookies or other stuff with mudcat. Other browsers should have similar settings.

John

Try IECookiesView at http://www.nirsoft.net/ - View/Delete/Modify the cookies that Internet Explorer stores on your computer.

My wife is the one round here who knows what to do when I screw up while trying to access whatever. But she has a "real job" and is away at work,or long gone to bed.She uses computer jargon, only it's French computer jargon. Its a headbanger everywhichway.Anyway,to JohnInKansas,I'll sort out what you just posted, think I might print it out even. Thanks for your time.

Hello Azizi.
Am no sports fan either,a bit of cricket maybe.
Take care,everone,
