Hi folks.

Is anyone aware of a dance tune or any melody I could use that is authentically linked to the Chartits riots in Britain in the early part of the 19c? A tune linked to Wales and the Rebecca riots or Newport risings would be a godsend. its for a new album of music linked to these events. stevethesqueeze

Check out Chumbawumba who did this on an album called English Rebel songs 1381-1989.

All accapella and pretty good.Much better than when they became well known and hit the charts.

There was a group called the Chartists here in south Wales from the late 80s. They self-produced a couple of albums, the first one being specifically about the movement and events of the mid 19th century.

I've PMed you a contact for one of the band. I sure he will be most helpful.

All the best

Splott Man

Under browse, put chartist in the "Display from' box. Five ballads will be listed. If you insert other keywords about the chartists, I am sure more will be found.

The first song that came up with 'chartist' was "A Chartist Song," tune "A man's a man for a' that."
