Subject: RE: THE FINAL FLING (Final night of the Melborn) From: John Robinson (aka Cittern) Date: 17 Jan 06 - 07:04 PM And what a great way to say goodbye. I walked out of the Melborn for the very last time at 6:15am on Tuesday morning. What a night, playing music with the people who stood by the place until the very last. I feel like I've had part of me stolen. Thanks Brother Eamon - let's hope the 'gap year' is exactly that. |

Subject: RE: THE FINAL FLING (Final night of the Melborn) From: GUEST Date: 19 Jan 06 - 07:54 AM I'm sorry I missed it. Brother E used to book the Pearl Divers at the Regent - a great supporter of live music. God speed mate. Tom Bliss (see some of you at the Topic's new home, the Cock and Bottle (quick, nurse, the screens) on 2nd of Feb, and maybe Paddy's Night too, why not? |
Subject: RE: THE FINAL FLING (Final night of the Melborn) From: Geoff the Duck Date: 19 Jan 06 - 06:01 PM Sorry I missed it. Eamon's hospitality has been legendary over many years. I have many memories of times at the Melbourne, the Regent in Leeds and the Melborn (spelling changed because Tetley's brewery wouldn't let him keep the original spelling). St.Pat will miss him I'm sure. Quack! Geoff. |
Subject: RE: THE FINAL FLING (Final night of the Melborn) From: John Robinson (aka Cittern) Date: 19 Jan 06 - 06:56 PM One thing I forgot to mention - it is an indication of the numbers of people in the pub over the last fling weekend that a few goes round with a glass raise over £1600 for the earthquake appeal. The pub always had a great reputation for really effective fundraisers - a tradition kept to the end. Yes, I'm looking forward to the Cock and Bottle gigs (I'm there with Julie on March 30th) but I'll never replace those Friday/Saturday night, Sunday afternoons and Monday nights ..... |
Subject: RE: THE FINAL FLING (Final night of the Melborn) From: Dave Hanson Date: 19 Jan 06 - 11:10 PM It was also called The Abbey Tavern at one point before reverting to the Melborn. The band I played with, The Relics, were one of Eamons regular Saturday night bands. eric |
