Subject: BS: Amazon's BookSurge -anyone use it? From: katlaughing Date: 25 Jan 06 - 11:39 AM I have a major book distributor interested in carrying my book, the only catch is I have to find a cheaper way to produce it. Otherwise I cannot afford to go with them. I've already visited local printers and none of them can match the cost of production I get from cafepress.com. So...I am looking into Amazon's self-publishing offshot called BookSurge. Are any of you familiar with it and/or seen any of the books they produce? Thanks, kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Amazon's BookSurge -anyone use it? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Jan 06 - 12:13 AM Is this a print on demand process? Are you able to pay for print costs out of pocket up front, or will you pay it off as you go? Do you know how many you want to print and do you need to have the layout work done, or is it camera ready? I helped a friend get a book published recently. There may be something helpful I can tell you. If you don't want to answer this in an open forum, send a PM. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Amazon's BookSurge -anyone use it? From: katlaughing Date: 26 Jan 06 - 11:23 AM Thanks, SRS. It is POD. It's a lot like cafepress where I already have my book. The advantage to it over cafepress is it would be listed at amazon, alibris, booksurge, and several other popular sites. There is a small upfront fee providing I send them a pdf, etc. as I've done with cafepress. It is also non-exclusive so I can keep cafepress because I can still buy them with an author's discount for less there than anywhere else. Since i first posted, I've found I cannot get them cheap enough to go with the distributor in Boulder, just yet. So, the main reason I am looking at BookSurge now is expanded markets. Thanks, kat |
