My good friend Connor, I truly don't know what to say. I have sent my friend several emails, but he is on the road and apparently this isn't high on his list. I will continue to try. It seems we have asked before and no one seems to have the lyrics. That doesn't happen often on the 'Cat. Here's hopin we find it.

All the best,

Mick

There was a little fly, went in the grocery store,
And it shit on the ceiling and it shit on the floor,
It shit on the bacon and it shit on the ham,
And it shit on the head of the little grocer man.

The little grocer man said "I'll kill that fly on sight,"
So he loaded up his gun full of nails and dynamite,
But before he could count from one to ten,
The fly shit on the head of the grocer man again!

Great Frank, thanks. But I believe there are a number of additional verses to the song. This is at least a start and more than we have got to date.

I have this on tape - will try to find it and transcribe the lyrics. It's popular at Scarborough Ren-faire and Gibbon the Troubador does it frequently. [I didn't know anyone was looking for it. yes, there are several more verses - icluding one where the (deceased) grocer and his wife dive-bomb the fly!]

Hah! I was pretty sure this was on my hard disk somewhere!

Here's what I have....

The FLY

Chorus:
Well, there was a little fly and he flew into a store
And he sh__ upon the ceiling and he sh__ upon the floor.
He sh__ upon the bacon and he sh__ upon the ham
And he sh__ upon the head of the little grocery man.

Well that little grocery man, he got a spray gun
He swore he'd get that fly, before the day was done.
But before he could count, from one to ten,
The fly swooped down and sh__ upon the grocery man again.

Chorus

That little grocery man, he had a grocery wife.
They swore they'd get that fly, if it took their bloody life.
So they bought themselves a cannon, and they hid inside the store,
And they blew themselves to blazes as the fly flew out the door.

Chorus

Well they found themselves in heaven, outside the Pearly Gate,
St. Peter said "Don't worry. for soon you be repaid."
So they got their angel wings, and they took off to the sky,
And they both swooped down like buzzards and they sh__ upon the fly.

Chorus
Chorus

-Sang by Gibbon the Troubadour, at Scarborough with various pirates during various years. Thank you Garold Amedon.

My Daddy used to sing this to me before he died, although his version was slighty different to that of the above!!

Still, its a good tune for a drunken day isnt it?!?

Who's on first?

Cheerily,

Seamus, Seamus, I think it's time you learned Mudcat Manners. If there's a discussion of a song and you've recorded it, it's entirely proper for you to say which CD has the song, and where people can buy it. I had to look through a huge stack of wonderful, hugely entertaining Seamus Kennedy CD's to find that the song is on that fabulous CD, By Popular Demand, Vol. 2.

Then I had to search through three thousand, six hundred, and eighty-two Web pages to find that this remarkable CD is available here (click) at CDBaby for a very reasonable price (and worth every penny).

...or are you trying to trick us into giving Seamus Kennedy testimonials??? [grin]

-Joe Offer-
