Subject: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Peace Date: 02 Feb 06 - 02:47 PM One of my real pleasures on the Mudcat has come to be Abby's threads. Invariably I learn something and I find them entertaining as well. I have always respected real bravery--and quite often that means working at your task without receiving much in the way of applause or recognition. I want you to know that your posts have come to mean a great deal to me. I seldom miss them, and on the odd occasion when I have had something useful to add I have felt like I was able to contribute in a small way to the sum of people's knowledge about a subject. Thank you for your work, dedication and consistency. Sincerely, Bruce |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Duke Date: 02 Feb 06 - 02:52 PM I agree 100% Abby's items are a must for me and have been for quite a while. I sometimes wonder where all the info comes from and how Abby manages to post it here day after day. Dedication is such a great thing. Many, many thanks! |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Azizi Date: 02 Feb 06 - 05:15 PM I second that emotion. [Well, actually I third it]. Thanks, Abby! |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Jeri Date: 02 Feb 06 - 05:28 PM I've enjoyed Abby's 'Happy' posts since I first encountered them on Usenet. I read them these days, but rarely have much to add, so, totally against my usual modus opera and Andy, I don't try to add anything. I don't know where he gets this stuff, but I also admire Abby's dedication. Every once in a while, I learn something, and while it's harder to stumble over an opportunity to do that amidst the opinions and egos, it's what I like most about the Internet. Thanks much! |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Barry Finn Date: 02 Feb 06 - 10:58 PM Always found Abby interesting & HAPPY, on usenet, on mudcat, on holiday or in person, quite a nice fella, a good bloke to be with & a treasure who's got a snappy punch. Thanks Abby Barry |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Feb 06 - 11:18 PM When Abby started posting the Happy! threads on Mudcat, I indexed his threads and updated the index every day. Then we had the Big Crash, and all of my links got scrambled. Bless him, Abby took over the indexing and sends me a completed index to post every month. Thanks a lot, Abby! In your honor, I fixed all the HTML I had screwed up on the indexes. -Joe Offer- Happy! happy? Happy! Index |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Ron Davies Date: 02 Feb 06 - 11:21 PM They're great--always worth reading--and I often learn something. Definitely one of the best aspects of the 'Cat. |

Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Peace Date: 03 Feb 06 - 06:32 PM It is wonderful to see many folks posting to this thread. There are people in our lives who exemplify something that is essential to the human spirit but so often hard to attain: Patience. I have been reading Abby's posts since they started (again) about a year back and some threads just fade seemingly without being noticed. I was really hoping that people would extend their thanks to him because it's important (IMO) that all people receive a kind word or a 'well done' now and then. Thanks once more, Abby. BM |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Tootler Date: 04 Feb 06 - 02:57 PM I would also like to mention Abby's courtesy. I have contributed to a few of the Happy! threads and recently received a PM thanking me for my contributions. A nice touch. Thank you Abby. Geoff |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Feb 06 - 03:57 PM Feel free to contribute to the "Happy" threads. Sometimes, the "Happy" topics are such that they don't warrant replies, so don't reply just to move the air around. Since the threads are of a special nature, be aware that I may delete or move messages in them that are off-topic. All of the "Happy" threads are more-or-less PermaThreads under Abby's control. The titles are also reserved for Abby's threads - so imitators will have their titles changed. I've been sporadically crosslinking them to related songs and topics when it's appropriate - I hope people think that's OK. We even had a few people flame Abby (click) when he started the "Happy?" threads. Abby being who he is, I think he was kinda proud to get flamed... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: KathWestra Date: 04 Feb 06 - 04:58 PM Adding my voice to the chorus. Thanks so much, Abby, for providing this to all of us with (as Peace noted) such devotion and dedication. It's a great resource you provide, and I'm grateful. Kathy |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Thank you, Abby Sale From: Cluin Date: 04 Feb 06 - 06:28 PM I used to read Abby Sale's "Happy" posts years ago on rec.music.folk on Usenet (before all the bitchiness there drove me off that neighbourhood of the internet). They were always informative and uplifting. It is good to see them here. |
