Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Folkiedave Date: 13 Feb 06 - 09:56 AM I went to the one at Sheffield. Occasionally felt (myself) a bit old - probably because I am, but some of the students' originality and talent and enthusiams made it all worth while. Best regards, Dave |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Grab Date: 13 Feb 06 - 10:26 AM I saw that, and was tempted. It ain't cheap though, is it? |

Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Crystal Date: 14 Feb 06 - 09:26 AM WHAT??? Not Cheap??? When £15 for a student gets you a whole weekend plus camping? Best value festival I've come across Grab! |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Grab Date: 14 Feb 06 - 01:25 PM Suppose you don't need the camping, and you're not a student... £15 for a day ain't too bad, I guess. Maybe I'm just tight. ;-) |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Mary Humphreys Date: 14 Feb 06 - 01:52 PM It'll be my first IVFDF. It will be a delight to mix with younger people - so many folk clubs have an ageing population ( like me! ) these days. Crystal - I will look out for you in the singaround and make sure you get a song or two. As the person detailed to (dis)organise it I am only too glad to know there will be at least one other person there wanting to sing. See you there! Mary |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 15 Feb 06 - 01:51 PM I went to one in Exeter, back in the days before university was called 'uni'. |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Bunnahabhain Date: 20 Feb 06 - 12:29 PM Refresh! |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Rattler Date: 20 Feb 06 - 06:39 PM I'm surprised at so few contributions to this thread - I can only suspect that Mudcat hasn't really become part of student culture in Britain yet. Pass the word on anyone in a position to do so! In case any potential visitors haven't realised yet, IVFDF is for all ages; lively, cross-cultural, inspiring and FUN! I'm not advertising, I just enjoy it. Glad to see Mary H. trying it for all the right reasons. See you there. R. |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Crystal Date: 21 Feb 06 - 06:57 AM Hi Mary, I'll DEFINATLY be at the singaround (even if our rehersal for the display ceilidh has to be fiddeled with!), I can't promise any quality singing though! I've had a stinking cold and sore throat which is now entering its second week! I'll still sing of course, but it might not be very good. |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: treewind Date: 21 Feb 06 - 07:06 AM There's absolutely no logic to what gets long threads on Mudcat and what doesn't, is there? Quality doesn't always match quantity... Anyway, Mary and I will be at IVFDF for a variety of reasons - mainly because it's local this year and we've had our arms twisted to play and run things - our band Fendragon is playing the display ceilidh, we're running a beginners' "Playing in sessions" workshop, playing for a Welsh dance workshop, Mary's running a singaround as mentioned - and we're putting up Sheila Mainwaring and Flos Headford, thus repaying Sheila's hospitality on many previous occasions. I hope to spend a reasonable amount of time drinking beer and playing tunes in sessions too. See you there! Anahata |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Cllr Date: 21 Feb 06 - 07:17 AM I will try to be at the singaround, when is it? Cllr |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Crystal Date: 21 Feb 06 - 09:50 AM Sat 5:15-6:30 apparently |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Mary Humphreys Date: 21 Feb 06 - 10:39 AM Look forward to seeing you there Cllr. And Crystal -take lots of Vitamin C and Zinc - it clears colds quicker! Also Echinacea - boosts the immune system. Hope you are better by Saturday so we can hear you in all your glory! Mary |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: GUEST,Rich A Date: 21 Feb 06 - 11:08 AM Aha, I'll be with playing for Pecsaetan and teaching the morris workshop. I'll try and make it along to the sing if the rugby's finished! Rich Arrrowsmith |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Mary Humphreys Date: 21 Feb 06 - 06:30 PM Good-oh! Looks like it has the makings of a good singaround. Are you coming to any of the music sessions Rich? Flos and Anahata & I will be there to swell the ranks. Mary |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Sue M Date: 22 Feb 06 - 07:27 AM I'll be going as my son is st Cambridge and is part of the CUCB (Cambridge University Ceilidh Band). I used to be a student back in the late 70's in Hull - just have to see if I can survive a full day of dancing on the Saturday. Now where did I put the 'Go Faster' stripes for the zimmer frame? Sue |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Sue M Date: 22 Feb 06 - 07:28 AM Duhr - Senior moment or what? "my son is at Cambridge" not "my son is st Cambridge" Where is the spell checker when you need it? Sue |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: GUEST,Rich A Date: 22 Feb 06 - 08:06 AM I'm not sure where or when they are but I'll try. Jess and I are planning to get down fairly early on Friday, is there anything happening early evening? Rich |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: breezy Date: 22 Feb 06 - 09:13 AM then afterwards, why not pop along to the jolly Brewers in Bish Stort or better still catch Pete Coe in St Albans at the Comfort Hotel, Holywell Hill plus Geo Papavgeris, Chris Flegg discount to 1vfdf attendees he'll be on after 8.00 p.m steady now cllr !! all that jigging up and down !! |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Bunnahabhain Date: 22 Feb 06 - 11:20 AM Rich A, Friday evening, there's a ceilidh from 8 pm, and a band playing in the bar, presumably from about 8, or bit earlier, or later... "Just because I've done this before, and am supposed to be organising you lot, you don't think I actually know whats going on!?" I will be saying this alot in various forms over the weekend. |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Mary Humphreys Date: 22 Feb 06 - 03:03 PM Anahata & I will be setting up for the Saturday ceilidh in the Upper School hall at about 8pm, but afterwards will probably slope off to the Common Room to see if there are any likely lads or lasses to start a music session. We hope to have Flos Headford with us - always a good start to a session. Mary |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: Anne Lister Date: 22 Feb 06 - 03:58 PM Good grief! I should have realised this kind of mad stuff was still happening, but I have vivid memories of attending (and dancing) at an IVFDF back in 1972. Can't remember where it was, though. Do remember we danced "Star Route" and at least one of our team lost all his shirt buttons. Have fun! |
Subject: RE: IVFDF Cambridge 2006 UK From: treewind Date: 22 Feb 06 - 04:12 PM I've done this before, and am supposed to be organising you lot So you're someone I know, but I don't know who... A. |
