Pat & I are doing our Welsh thing at Lewes Folk Club at the Lewes Arms in (you guessed it) Lewes in Sussex on Saturday 25 March. It would be nice to see you there.

As I am supposed to be a Resident at the Lewes Arms Club I should do my best to get there shouldn't I.

Work often gets in the way but as it happens I have a night off on that day.

Er - Dave -

Shouldn't that be a day off on that night?

Or am I just confusing myself?

Anyway, have a great time, all of you.

Hi Andrew,

My job involves morning, afternoon and night shifts and what I meant to say was I am not working that night.

Sorry if I've confused people but I still intend to get there.

To Sussex Carole
Dewi Davis's Mystery Tour was written by Jack Sully better known as Jack the Bard

Jack Sully, a Caardiff boy, lived in Surrey for many years, where I first met him at Addlestone Folk Club. He is well into his 80s now and still going strong. Although he can no longer play the guitar comfortably, his voice is still strong, and he's still writing witty intelligent songs.

Ned the shortarse.

Jack's a retired bank manager, too. I still have a treasured CD entitled Jack The Bard's Last Stand, recorded by Andy the Forest Tracks man when Jack did a gig at Llantrisant Folk Club.

Before my stroke, Calennig (Pat and I) used sing Dewi Davies in spot-on harmony - it was a brilliant melange of seven well-known Welsh songs, written in Jack's intelligent and hilarious hand. We always credited him for that. We recorded Dewi Davies for our second Greenwich Village album, but Joe (He Who Must Be Obeyed) Stead had to cut out the track, saying the album (You Can Take A White Horse Anywhere) was too full.

Here's to you, Jack, for giving me so much pleasure with your songs.

I don't think that Jack's has been commercially recorded, anyway, which is why I'm closely guarding mine! Dewi Davies went the tune(s) of Men Of Harlech, The Bells Of Aberdovey, Sospan Fach, Cwm Rhondda, Llwyn On, Ar Hyd Y Nos and Fflat Huw Puw - a stunning and marvellous achievement!

I still have a few copies of Jack's CD. Although I say so myself it is a good listen and a source of some of his best songs

PM me or go to Miskinfolk.co.uk or something technical, I'm sure you will find me.

If you are saying that you still have a few 'available', please put me down for one.

Or else I will try to immortalise you in song.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

To return to the main subject...
We're fully rehearsed (yeah, right!).
We're popping in to the Ram at Claygate on the way down, then back to MGAS & Richard's for some falling down water.

See you all at Lewes!

Thanks all for the good wishes.

Try and sound enthusiastic Breton Cap!

Please come up and say hello, I'm sure we'll know you, but I don't always catch names at Mudgathers, so it'll be good to put pseudonyms to faces.

Many thanks to Pat and Ned for an extremely jolly evening, lots of laughs, and plenty of material that was new to me. I was especially interested in the song 'Over The Waterfall', which seems to use the English session tune 'The Dark Girl Dressed In Blue'.

All the best,

Valmai
