Subject: RE: Pat Smith/Ned Clamp unashamed plug From: GUEST,Bill the sound Date: 15 Mar 06 - 07:35 PM To Sussex Carole Dewi Davis's Mystery Tour was written by Jack Sully better known as Jack the Bard Bill the sound |
Subject: RE: Pat Smith/Ned Clamp unashamed plug From: Splott Man Date: 16 Mar 06 - 04:02 AM Jack Sully, a Caardiff boy, lived in Surrey for many years, where I first met him at Addlestone Folk Club. He is well into his 80s now and still going strong. Although he can no longer play the guitar comfortably, his voice is still strong, and he's still writing witty intelligent songs. Ned the shortarse. |
Subject: RE: Pat Smith/Ned Clamp unashamed plug From: GUEST,Dr Price Date: 16 Mar 06 - 04:57 AM Jack's a retired bank manager, too. I still have a treasured CD entitled Jack The Bard's Last Stand, recorded by Andy the Forest Tracks man when Jack did a gig at Llantrisant Folk Club. Before my stroke, Calennig (Pat and I) used sing Dewi Davies in spot-on harmony - it was a brilliant melange of seven well-known Welsh songs, written in Jack's intelligent and hilarious hand. We always credited him for that. We recorded Dewi Davies for our second Greenwich Village album, but Joe (He Who Must Be Obeyed) Stead had to cut out the track, saying the album (You Can Take A White Horse Anywhere) was too full. Here's to you, Jack, for giving me so much pleasure with your songs. |
Subject: RE: Pat Smith/Ned Clamp unashamed plug From: GUEST Date: 16 Mar 06 - 10:12 AM Jack Sully sounds like a marvellous man, Dr Price. Has he recorded at all? |
Subject: RE: Pat Smith/Ned Clamp unashamed plug From: GUEST,Dr Price Date: 16 Mar 06 - 10:41 AM I don't think that Jack's has been commercially recorded, anyway, which is why I'm closely guarding mine! Dewi Davies went the tune(s) of Men Of Harlech, The Bells Of Aberdovey, Sospan Fach, Cwm Rhondda, Llwyn On, Ar Hyd Y Nos and Fflat Huw Puw - a stunning and marvellous achievement! |
