Hi there,

I always seem to hear about folk programs - after they have been broadcast - very frustrating.

Does anyone know if there is a reliable website that publishes what folk broadcasts are up and coming on tv in the uk ?

Try The TV Genius, a user-customisable TV guide that covers all the UK channels. Once you have the name of a programme, you can find all the repeats of it, if there are any.

not really - radio is being downgraded generally and television is expanding.

But how does all this fit in with the recent government announcement that the Beeb is shortly to have a new charter with strong requirements for quality programming?

I signed up to receive the bbc4 newsletter every week, which highlights any folk programmes are being shown on 4

I'd suggest a regular check of the various forums - here u.m.f fRoots and BBC F&A message board is the only way to be reasonably certain of catching anything.

At least one of those boards will have someone posting an advance notice, but you probably need to check all to be reasonably certain of catching most things.

Ok then perhaps we need to start a thread on which we can announce forthcoming programmes. NO COMMENTS just advance warning. Without the normal traffic of chat it would be manageable. There are a plethora of Folk programmes available on the web as well as terrestrial .

Keep an eye on Mudact threads - future programmes are often flagged although sometimes on the actual day

Mudcat threads are house trained and freely avialable on the national health

Prince Charles found Camilla on the Mudcat (allegedly)

You can also flag one up yourself - as the actress said.....

Try a thread entitled "Boat Band on ITV tonight(maybe)". Or indeed, any thread with a simlarly suggestive title. Mudcatters seem pretty good at giving advance warning of stuff they spot. Though mind you, JOhn from Hull was the best at that sort of warning, and he doesnt seem to be around much, alas.

Why not get into the habit of checking the BBC website 'listen again' feature. You can select music by type, including folk and traditional. That returns links to not only nationally broadcast programmes but all the regional channels. There are real gems in there, including some in Gaelic (Scottish and Irish). Also you can run the programme for up to seven days after it was broadcast. It is too easy to complain. The truth is, these are golden days for access to music of all kinds.

The TV Genius site seems to work ok.

I have used the Listen Again feature on the BBC Radio2 quite a lot in the past.

The BBC4 website seems pretty good - I'll go there more often
