On Friday, May 19, 2006, Joe Hickerson (who Pete Seeger calls "the folksinger's folksinger") will give a house concert in Rockland, Maine. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15, with all proceeds going to Joe. For reservations, more information, and/or directions, call (207) 594-6357, or let me know by posting to this thread.

This is a rare chance to hear Joe this far north. Expect to sing along on plenty of choruses, and to hear some rare gems gathered during Joe's years as head of the Archive of Folk Culture at the Library of Congress. The co-author with Pete Seeger of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," Joe writes the regular "Songfinder" column for SingOut! and has sung at just about every U.S. folk festival and abroad in his more than 50 years of performing. He has three wonderful solo recordings on the Folk-Legacy label, and has recorded with many other musicians on various anthologies, including Folk-Legacy's classic "Five Days Singing" discs. Don't miss it! Kathy

It should be lots of fun. Kendall and Jacqui will be there, as will Michael Cooney, who may even be asked to join Joe on some songs, since they're doing some recording together the week before the concert. PLEASE call or e-mail if you'd like to attend. The concert will be held at Bob and Beth Stuart's home in Rockland. Admission is $15. Phone number (mine) for reservations is (207) 594-6357.

Kath-

Unfortunately Roll & Go is performing that night at the Sidedoor Coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brunswick. Otherwise we'd be there for sure.

I do hope you have a good turnout.

Charley Noble

Joe put un a heck of a good concert in Winters, California, a few months ago. The whole concert was like a party - a real song fest.
First time I heard "Sam Houston" - and I hope it's not my last. I may have to get RiGGy to sing it for me next time.
Give Joe my regards.
