Subject: Skiffle on the Tyne - 22 April From: MikeofNorthumbria Date: 10 Apr 06 - 10:32 AM Hello Folks, On Saturday 22 April, in the downstairs bar at the Cumberland Arms, Byker,(Newcastle upon Tyne) we're having a Skiffle Party to celebrate Lonnie Donegan's 75th birthday (a week early), and the 50th anniversary (approximately)of Rock Island Line hitting the charts. It'll be hosted by Midnite Special, but everyone's invited to bring along guitars, washboards, voices etc and join in the fun from 7.30 pm onwards. Any Mudcatters who enjoy skiffle and live within range of Tyneside will be very welcome to drop in. Wassail! Mike |

Lonnie and Beryl Bryden are sadly no longer with us. Chris Barber, on the other hand, who played bass on that most influential record, is still going strong. (I think, God willing). |
