Subject: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Andy Jackson Date: 10 Apr 06 - 04:56 PM Well if no-one else is going to make a fuss I will! Ben and quite a few keen volunteers are going to a lot of effort for a couple of very worthy causes. How about some of the usual Mudcat enthusiasm. Have a look at their site for the background and get sponsoring. Next Foot Up Andy |

Following Miskin I'll be following Ben's progress through the traditional Cotswold/Border Morris areas & on to Worcester, hope to see plenty of Morris sides out to support ~ & any Mudcatters living locally on the route. Good Luck to Ben Rosie x |

Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Selchie - (RH) Date: 11 Apr 06 - 03:42 AM Much of the route covers Cotswold villages where the dances originated from, & also some of the Worcestershire villages where traditional Welsh Border dances came from. Rosie |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Essex Girl Date: 11 Apr 06 - 09:02 AM Ben is well known in our area, both as a musician and a dancer with Ravensbourne Morris. Good luck to him, and we'll make sure we raise a great donation at Miskin. |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Andy Jackson Date: 24 Apr 06 - 01:22 PM Anybody know what happened?? We certainly raised a pot of money with MGAS's raffle at Miskin. Is no news good news??? Andy |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Andy Jackson Date: 24 Apr 06 - 02:34 PM I've just found out that Ben completed his dance on the Worcestshire border at a place called Sandhills having completed a distance of 145 miles. This distance still has to be confirmed but by any standards it's a b***** long way. Well done to Ben and all the team. I expect there is still time to make donations to the excellent causes. Andy |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Andy Jackson Date: 24 Apr 06 - 02:53 PM Just to encourage more donations:- Thanks to amazing efforts by "My Guru Always Says" and her merry band at Miskin at Easter, the sum of £430 was raised in the raffle. A further £80 was raised by Lesley's "name the Bar Bunny" and other donations. A grand total of £510. Well done. |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Scooby Doo Date: 24 Apr 06 - 03:08 PM Well done Ben for the effort you must have have put into the dances. Scooby of Miskin. |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: GUEST Date: 24 Apr 06 - 03:32 PM Well done Ben was it not 210 miles ? |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: My guru always said Date: 24 Apr 06 - 04:03 PM This is fantastic news! Fancy dancing 145 miles - I certainly don't *grin* Well done to Ben & all who've helped to raise money for the cause - we did well at Miskin!!! |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Andy Jackson Date: 24 Apr 06 - 04:07 PM Guest: the figure of 145 was cut and pasted from an email from Ian Campbell the events publicity officer so he must know! The actual distance has to be ratified but I doubt if it will change by that much. The hoped for distance was in fact 210 miles but perhaps Ben's feet had had enough of the feat! It looks like Jim Bartlett still has the record then at 202.5 miles. What is important though is the spirit in which it was undertaken and the money raised for the two charities. See the background here Who's next for the attempt then? (I shall make sure I'm too busy!!) |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Selchie - (RH) Date: 25 Apr 06 - 03:41 AM We were with the team on Wednesday night & again on Thursday in Worcestershire. A great effort was made by all in supporting Ben who was clearly suffering by then, but he continued on Friday to achieve 145 miles ~ enough to qualify for The Guiness Book of Records. The previous effort by Jim Bartlett was never recorded officially. It was also good exposure for Morris Dancing throughout the week. All were delighted to hear results of Hilary's raffle & will be pleased with the extra from The Easter Bunny & the Mummers' collection. An excellent result Andy & well done Miskin :-) Love to Andy & Jillie Rosie xx |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: Andy Jackson Date: 25 Apr 06 - 04:14 AM Hmmmmm...So nothing was ever achieved before a commercial enterprise took over the recording of mans accomplishments? None of the three " Kemp's Jigs" detracts from the others one iota. Different times mean different recognitions, we now live in a world ruled by stopwatch and offical record keeping. Long live the independant spirit. I shall have a drink to all three dancers at Upton!! And to those who assisted.. and to those who didn't dance.. and to those who watched.. and to those.....I think you get the drift. Andy |
Subject: RE: Ben Dauncey Easter Morris Dance Epic From: GUEST,Ben Dauncey Date: 03 May 06 - 08:51 AM hi the final total was about 146 if you realy want to know the exact number it will be posted on our web site when it is confut=rmed that we have the record. Not that i realy care about the guiness book of record this was done in the name of tradition. I know that i didnt manage to do what i siad that i was going to but unfortuateley we had a little trouble with my ankles on the thursday we where also already behind time at this piont. i only manage to dance 9 miles that day as it was like dancing with broken ankles. So we stoped early i had a good massage for my sport masser and then a long rest. We started the morning early and managed to get up through stow in one shot. But three miles before the border my ankle stoped me i talk to the masser and she said that she was worried that i could fracture the ankle but being a stubon git i dis to hell with it it is only three miles and we started off for the final leg and all fo a studen it started to rain and i am shore that the last three miles seemed like five. It was snows hill where our journey ended at the bottom of the hill where the brook is. I have to say at the time i was just glad to finish but i now know the journey has not ended i will attempt to get to worcester again in two years time i would like to thank my team and the sponsor's as they are the ones that made this possible i was just the nutter who did it. untill next time Regards Ben. nextfootup.com |
