Subject: Lyr Add: desperado...last verse missing in D.T. From: open mike Date: 10 Apr 06 - 08:38 PM perhaps the most important part..was left out... Desperado, why don't you come to your senses, Come down from your fences- open the gates. It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you. You'd better let somebody love you, LET SOMEBODY LOVE YOU. You'd better let somebody love you, before it's too late. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: desperado...last verse missing in D.T From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Apr 06 - 02:35 AM Ok, with the verse added by Open Mike, here's what we have. Any other corrections? -Joe- DESPERADO (Don Henley, Glenn Frey) Desperado, why don't you come to your senses You've been out riding fences for so long now O you're a hard one but I know that you got your reasons These things that are pleasin' you will hurt you somehow Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy 'Cause she'll beat you if she's able You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet Now it seems to me some fine things Have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones that you can't get Desperado, you know you ain't gettin' younger Your pain & your hunger they're driving you home And freedom, o freedom, that's just some people talkin' You're a prisoner walking thru this world all alone (your prison is walking??) Don't your feet get cold in the winter time The sky won't snow & the sun won't shine It's hard to tell the night time from the day You're losing all your highs & lows Ain't it funny how the feeling goes / Away Desperado, why don't you come to your senses, Come down from your fences- open the gate. It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you. You'd better let somebody love you, LET SOMEBODY LOVE YOU. You'd better let somebody love you, before it's too late. Desperado ... Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T From: open mike Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:44 AM Well i thought it was "we're prisoners walking.." |
Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T From: Joe Offer Date: 11 Apr 06 - 03:49 PM "Your prison is walking" is the wording that's in Rise Up Singing, which is a reasonably (but not completely) reliable source. I didn't find it in any of the fakebooks I have, and I have a good number of them. In the Judy Collins recording, it sure sounds like "your prison is walking" to me. Haven't found the Eagles recording of it, yet. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T. From: Declan Date: 12 Apr 06 - 02:22 AM I've always heard it as "Your prison is walking" as well. I always thought that the opening line of verse 2 was "Don't carve the queen of diamonds", but draw makes sense. |
Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T. From: Snuffy Date: 12 Apr 06 - 07:09 AM "Your prison is walking" and "You're prisoners walking" sound exactly the same. But the second one makes more sense - I've never seen a prison that walked. |
Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T From: Jeri Date: 12 Apr 06 - 08:35 AM And Joe, I'd say RUS is usally accurate, and just leave the word "reliably" out of it. It's wrong this time. I'm almost sure it's "You're a prisoner walking." (The singer is talking to ONE person, who is s/he thinks has a problem.) |
Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T From: Jeri Date: 12 Apr 06 - 08:46 AM Jeri's usually accurate... or at least occasionally. On second thought, I think RUS probably has it right. The second one makes sense (prisonerS), if the singer were addressing more than one person. And freedom, o freedom, that's just some people talkin' You're prison is walking thru this world all alone Paraphrase department: The 'freedom' of the open road is a myth. Freedom needs love, and being alone in this world is the same as a prison for YOU. |
Subject: RE: DT Corr: desperado...last verse missing in D.T. From: s&r Date: 12 Apr 06 - 08:54 AM 'Your prison is walking' is given in the published version in 'Hell Freezes Over' What it means to me is your prison (sentence, punishment...) is to have to walk alone through the world; sort of lonely and ostracised Stu |
