Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 19 Apr 06 - 10:15 AM And Exmoor, my 'proper' border side are dancing up at Brendon Festival in North Devon, so doubt that I'll make it either. Sorry. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 19 Apr 06 - 11:08 AM We'll be there, possibly minus Tamsyn, as she has exams - and may still be getting over the shock of having her gorgeous long locks cut off this afternoon!!!!!!!!! (she still looks Gorgeous though!) Cheers, Lucy PS I started a rumour about a mudgather on Sunday mroning on top of the tor, hoping someone will take on the organising bit? Last year it was Snuffy, Selchie & me (and Amber & the other Hawker & a lark - who we serenaded with 'The Lark in The Clear air' if I remember correctly - well it was early in the morning!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 19 Apr 06 - 12:33 PM Snuffy's already booked for it!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: My guru always said Date: 19 Apr 06 - 01:38 PM All booked up & raring to go, my first time but wanted to come along for the past few years!! Will the Mudgather on the Tor be a goer? I heard a suggestion it'd be before breakfast which is a challenge for me. Can Catters do chocolate before breakfast? Hope all is well, positive thoughts {{{{Cats}}}} |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 19 Apr 06 - 05:43 PM Chocolate before breakfast! I'd just consider it supper! as there won't be much sleeping! Take care of that voice and get it really better for F&H MGAS. Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,GeoffP Date: 20 Apr 06 - 07:51 AM Can't wait just a couple of weeks to go. Booked a bit of extra time off work as well so Lin and I are going for the long weekend. Cheers Geoff |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Snuffy Date: 20 Apr 06 - 08:35 AM I am??? |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 20 Apr 06 - 09:36 AM Mudgather? Nay Lass, You'll find nought up there but rocks and sheep sh*t! There is a bog gather part way up, though. Would that do? It looks like my annual (weather permitting) jaunt to the top, is going to get crowded and noisey this year. At least the noise might drown out the sound of my wheezy old lungs. see yer there Brian |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 20 Apr 06 - 09:51 AM Snuffy ~ it was when you said 'That seems a good idea' o'clock one morning...!!!!! I jest. It was half past. Anyway, you are so good at it. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Bobcat Date: 20 Apr 06 - 11:00 AM There's an interesting letter about Fox hunting songs in the new FOLK LEADS magazine.. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST Date: 20 Apr 06 - 01:40 PM Count me in for the weekend - but out for anything on top of a Tor first thing in the morning. I'll send my proxies - Jack and Zak instead! Jack will do practically anything for chocolate - Zak musn't have it (being a canine it's poison to him). Don't on any account - if you value your ears and sensibilities - let Jack sing. Lovely man, can turn his hand to most things - but definitely not a singer or a dancer. See you there, Polly |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 20 Apr 06 - 02:06 PM Oh Polly! Poor Jack! He turned his hand pretty well to corn dolly making at the weekend, after a few false starts. In our house, The dog will do anything for Choclate (even though it is a poison) and Kevin isn't allowed it 'cos it's ALL MINE!!!!!!!!! BG ;0) Lucy |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST Date: 21 Apr 06 - 01:11 PM Refresh. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 21 Apr 06 - 05:02 PM See you there Brian, Three years ago there was a highland cattle Gtaher that was something to behold! if a little threatening! Tell Lucy Tammy took the plunge and had all her hair cut off! well half of it anyway! See you soon, Lucy |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 22 Apr 06 - 06:58 AM Hawker. Not sure what a Gtaher is, but it sounds scary!!! We've got the shears out and trying to catch Lucy (without much success), so Tammy won't feel left out! see yer Brian |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 23 Apr 06 - 10:40 AM Does this mean that we all have to be shorn this year? look forward to seeing you there. It looks like being a good one! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 24 Apr 06 - 12:18 PM If we're all Shawn (except Bendigo, who will get the brush off), won't it get a bit confusing in the singarounds? cheers Brian |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: My guru always said Date: 24 Apr 06 - 04:45 PM No, the shearing's not for you - nor me neither!!! Hmm, this TorGather, does it involve climbing Hills? Don't do Hills, me.... |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 24 Apr 06 - 04:58 PM You are hills!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: SussexCarole Date: 24 Apr 06 - 04:58 PM We're booked! See you there |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 24 Apr 06 - 06:39 PM Hills? Nah! It's a lovely gentle stroll on the flat (HeHehe) .... all the way to the top!!!! cheers Brian |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats at Work Date: 25 Apr 06 - 04:57 AM It's a gentle slope....... ish. Not obligatory though and it is early in the morning!!! Great fun and where else is there a mudgather on top of the Tor? |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 25 Apr 06 - 09:12 AM I'm not sure what time catters call early, but I think I was back on the campsite last year before they set out. It was too damn windy up by Widgery Cross to hang around too long. Cats. On the way back down, I think I met part of your awning going the other way!!! Seriously. If you're going to do the Tor walk, expect a round trip of about 2.5 - 3 miles and a rise of about 500ft from the ford in the stream (River Lyd) to the cross. It's worth the effort. cheers Brian |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: My guru always said Date: 25 Apr 06 - 03:29 PM 2.5 - 3 miles!!!!! Eeeekk! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Polly Squeezebox Date: 25 Apr 06 - 05:11 PM Cats, shame on you!!! I guess you can claim exemption this year because you've been ill - but i've never seen or heard any evidence of your going up to the top of the tor. Now, the speciality cheese shop in the local town, or back home to feed the cats, or to the florists to buy flowers for the landlady. or back home to get the forgotten Bendigo, or get a spare tankard because Jacquie forgot to pack Brian's ... etc., etc. Yes, you've done all those. Admitted you don't need an excuse this year to get out of it - but you better have a good excuse next year! What about the 'dog' show this year? Do Jack and Zak finally get to win the lookalike owner and dog class? Polly |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Morticia Date: 25 Apr 06 - 05:37 PM I want to know more about this 'early' malarkey......I may do walking, I may even do hills ( or gentle slopes)...I do NOT do early. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Phot Date: 25 Apr 06 - 05:47 PM Time off........Check, time off for Pixie.......Check, money.......check, new tyres for the Landy......Check. What do you mean walk to the Tor?.................See you there! Wassail!! Chris and Fiona |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 26 Apr 06 - 08:23 AM Polly, What was that about "get a spare tankard because Jacqui forgot to pack Brian's." I wish!! I was left to drink out of damp glasses all weekend! Morty, I do early. Catters do before lunchtime. Jack and Zak were on the way back when I set out. Damn, does that man never sleep? I could be doing the walk later this year, Jessie takes a while longer to wake up now. I wasn't expecting him to be up to it this year at all, but he still seems to be ready to take on the world, al be it at a slower pace than before. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 26 Apr 06 - 01:14 PM Well someone has to provide all those things that everyone forgets ~ even if it means going back home for them! Now, last year we had to go home as so many people wanted to see the new [very old] house we had bought so we had to have the state visit!! We always go into Tavy to get flowers for the pub and it's a good excuse to visit the Cheese shop and the amazing amber stall in Tavy market! I have been up the Tor before but there's early and there's EARLY!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Jacqui Date: 26 Apr 06 - 01:59 PM Just for the record, I did not 'forget' to take the tankard, I chose to leave it behind. Just as I chose to leave the kettle, the washing-up liquid, the children...... Might choose to leave the husband behind this year!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Polly Squeezebox Date: 26 Apr 06 - 03:21 PM No, Jacqui, don't leave him behind - just tell HIM to bring all the things HE will need e.g. his tankard, the kettle to make you an early morning drink, the washing-up liquid and HIS rubber gloves to wash up after he's cooked for you and ... the children, plus the dog to accompany HIS walks ..... You just make sure you bring yourself and your lovely voice. See you there, Polly |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: My guru always said Date: 26 Apr 06 - 04:03 PM Amber stall? This just gets better!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 26 Apr 06 - 04:20 PM Now, now, sister. I can't have you talking about my brother in law like that!!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 26 Apr 06 - 08:14 PM Polly, you really shouldn't go spreading rumours - Jacqui and early morning drinking, me dressed in rubber. How cruel of you. It's all lies, lies, damn lies, I say!!! Exit, protesting too much......... |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Morticia Date: 27 Apr 06 - 06:35 AM Good heavens, is this a place a gently raised woman such as myself should be attending, with all this hedonism and debauchery? |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 27 Apr 06 - 06:59 AM Probibly not, but I bet your sense of adventure and curiosity will get the better of you. See you there Brian |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 27 Apr 06 - 01:30 PM Debauchery and Hedonism aren't actually on the programme... but I could put them on if you want!!!! |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Morticia Date: 27 Apr 06 - 04:33 PM Best put Brian in charge of those, Cats......he sounds like a man with experience.*G* |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 28 Apr 06 - 12:11 PM I've got the photo's to prove it!!! Now isn't Phot coming this year, I do hope he brings his camera........ |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 28 Apr 06 - 02:23 PM Sorry folks, Debauchery has to work at weekends these days, and Hedonism can't make her mind up whether she coming or not. ("You don't know what it's like doing 12 GCSE's!!!") |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 29 Apr 06 - 04:19 PM For those of you getting a bit worried about all this, it isn't really that bad. We do have some exceptional singing along the way, the landlord loves having us there and the beer and food are excellent. The pub is on the edge of Dartmoor and is only a few minutes off the main A30. The pub has its own campsite as well as a bunkhouse and hotel rooms. Next year will be the 10th birthday and they put it in the diary last year! See you all there |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 29 Apr 06 - 07:04 PM I thought it sounded quite good actually, then you brought it back down to normality..... Please let there be a bit of debauchery and hedonism, this year will be my 45th birthday and next year... I'll let you do the maths, but Fox & Hounds 2011 will be a good one for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Cats Date: 30 Apr 06 - 12:54 PM OK, Debauchery and Hedonism is back on the programme!! I'll order the cake for 2011!! [I thought you were younger than that!] |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Hawker Date: 30 Apr 06 - 06:56 PM Yippeeee!!! Cats.....Mental age yes, reality check Nope! Cheers Lucy |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: GUEST,Brian Date: 30 Apr 06 - 09:35 PM D&H are back on the programme!!! Oh bugger, I'd better get some sleep, then. |
Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds 2006 From: Polly Squeezebox Date: 01 May 06 - 12:33 PM That was debauchery and hedonism, Brian. Buggary WOULD be taking it too far! Polly |
