The Wilders may be coming to Juneau this summer. They're in the booking process right now. In reading about them online they seem to be an exciting group. What can you tell me about them?

Thanks!

Eb

I saw the Wilders at a festival in Boonville, Missouri a couple of years ago. They are a very dynamic and fun group! The fiddle player can really saw that fiddle, and she sings very well. The others in the group are just as good and highly entertaining. The banjo player gets so wound up that I think he must wear out his cloths FROM THE INSIDE! A great choice.

They are one of the wife's favorites. They are like the AC DC of Honky Tonk. A good show go check them out. Betsy is a riot.

Yes! Yes! Yes! If you have the chance to see the Wilders in concert, you should DEFINATELY go!! Musically, they are great and as performers, they are FABULOUS!!! Ridge Plucker is correct, The Wilders are one of my all-time favorite groups! I absolutely LOVE the fiddle player, she can really play...and she dances while she plays too....it's fun to watch and even more fun to try out yourself once you get home! :) They are also really nice people who are glad to talk to you one-on-one after the performance!

You can listen to their sound here: The Wilders

I personally really like Kansas City Star, Night Train to Memphis and Try Doin' Right!

Ebbie, by all means, get yourself a ticket and GO!
Any more questions? *GRIN*

But do you like them, Michelle? *G*

A friend is doing the leg work on this one. She told me what date they are aiming for but I've forgotten. I looked at the Wilders' tour schedule and they seem pretty busy.

But yes- if they come to Juneau I will definitely go.

Thanks for the satisfying answers. You're all great.

The Wilders are good musicians but they are at their best in live performance.   When I have seen them on stage they work around a single microphone and they can certainly work up an audience.   Several years back they were at Folk Alliance and while they were not on any of the organized stages they drew a crowd in the hallways, stairwells, and wherever else they set up. And they held their audience. They will not disappoint.

I've seen them live and I have one of their CD's. The Wilders give you the real sound of the mid-south. When I hear commercial country, I want to ask the singers, "And what suburb are YOU from?" The Wilders sound old-fashioned, unpolished and real.

The CDs are great but it is true that they are SO much better in person! They have personality and then some. If you aren't wanting to get up and dance, there must be something very, very wrong!!!!!

Ebbie, I'm jealous! They aren't coming to my neck of the woods this year...*POUT*   Have fun, dance, sing and have some more fun!

They are absolutely one of the most energetic and crowd pleasing groups you'll see this decade.

The Wilders have played here twice in the last three years. It's three guys and a gal: old timey fiddler, Betsey, who also sings lead and backup, a guy on an old archtop rhythm guitar who sings most of the leads, a rockin' upright bass player who sings harmony, and a banjo/dobro/mandolin player who also sings harmony.

They present themselves (or did) as an "old time country" band. They do a lot of Roy Acuff songs, great gospel pieces, and Betsey has a repertoire of old time Ozark (Missouri) tunes that are pretty unusual.

Lest you think they are just a bunch of hicks, Betsey told me she has a degree in classical violin, and she and the dobro player were a duet doing gypsy music when they teamed up with the lead singer, who has training in singing opera. But boy can he beat out a rhythm on that old archtop! Don't miss 'em !

Last night the Wilders put on a great show. Two hours of rockin', foot stompin' music. Plus they are really nice down home folks. We'd love to have them stay.

They came to town Monday night and had a busy day, crabbing and boating. That night they did a show at the Alaskan Bar and afterward they jammed with local folk until 4 o'clock the next morning.

Ike, the guitar player, was a little hoarse last night because of it but it didn't seem to slow him down much. Today they head for Anchorage and then to Nome for a couple more shows.

They have a newer album out now, called 'Throwdown'. They did a brisk business at the CD table.

:) :) :)

I KNEW you'd like them!!!! Did you get up and dance? Did you get to jam with them? Did they sign your CD? I have a poster from a festival they played at and all of them signed it...it's right here above my desk...see? Purty! *GRIN*

Seriously, I'm so glad you got to go and that you had a good time...I can't wait until they come back to the east coast!

Michelle
