Subject: Notice! Trick to entering lyrics! From: Date: 01 Mar 97 - 08:53 PM Some times people are kind enough to type in entire sets of lyrics for songs, but they end up in run-on sentences.. If you WANT to do it in 'verse' form, you need to hit 2 'carriage returns' between lines..like this: "Jimmy cracked corn And I dont care" etc....it leaves a blank line, but this MAY be better than 'Jimmy cracked corn and I dont care, my master's gone away. When he would ride in the afternoon, I'd follow after with a hickory broom" It's your choice...just remember *2* returns are required to start a new line at the left margin...

Jimmy cracked corn
The trick is that this is an HTML page. So you can make it break lines without having to double-space them, by putting in the HTML line break sign. That's a left angle (<) followed by BR followed by a right angle (>), thus: <BR>
You put one at the end of each line, where you want the breaks. It's a fiddling thing to do, but it isn't hard. |
Subject: RE: Notice! Trick to entering lyrics! From: ggolgart Date: 03 Mar 97 - 12:15 AM Is it possible to type the words offline? Save to file and then upload to this area. On long songs I have found the connection to drop because of "percieved inactivity." |

From: Date: 03 Mar 97 - 12:35 AM Great to learn the break trick....now if it was just included in a list of instructions somewhere so that this message does not just disappear--next week, someone will need to know it again.. as to the offline thing...sure..you can type lyrics in your word processer and cut & paste them in..(I think!!??) testing to see if the break thing really works... |
Subject: RE: Notice! Trick to entering lyrics! From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Mar 97 - 02:22 AM Cut-and-paste works just fine, except that you don't need the extra line feeds between lines to make it come out right. If you double-enter after each line on a cut-and-paste job, you'll end up with a double-spaced song. Somebody suggested "uploading" to this area - I don't think that's possible. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Notice! Trick to entering lyrics! From: Rodney Rawlings Date: 03 Mar 97 - 07:47 PM I have a text-only browswer (Lynx), and cannot enter double returns (they have no effect); in fact I can't even do single ones. So I use slashes (spacedË). |
