Subject: Cigar Box Guitar Gutbucket songs
From: GutBucketeer

I've loaded 2 sample songs from last Friday's Cigar Box Guitar & Back
Porch Music Festival in Collingswood NJ on my Myspace website.

The first is BOZ' performance of "Support the Troops (Not the War)".
The song is written by Country Joe McDonald (of the Fish), but IMHO
BOZ adds depth and meaning to the song. Its a song that should
become an anthem for the months leading to the election. The more people that hear it, learn it, play it the better !!!

The second is Jerry Thompson and Rob Whitekettle of
the "Color of Skies" performing Gerry's "Holding Cell". This is what
getting back to basics in music is all about folks. Whew! Gerry is one of the best songwriters that I have come across in recent memory. His songs are heart felt, moving, and seem to reach out to me personally (and maybe you too).

I add some bass to both

Go here to hear them:

The Hartwells, Tommio, and Russ Edwards also performed. As discussed
elsewhere each was awesome.

Check out "Just Kiss Me" by Color of Skies - Gerry Thompson, Rob
WhiteKettle, and guest Moi (Gutbucketeer, Jim Bunch)at:

http://www.myspace.com/gutbucketeer

Ok, I visited the Color of Skies Myspace site today
(http://www.myspace.com/colorofskies) and Gerry Thompson had
uploaded "Holding Cell" as one of his four songs. Soooo. In the
interest of sharing and not duplicating I've exchanged "Holding Cell"
for "Just Kiss Me" on my Myspace Site. It's another one of Gerry's
songs that is on the Color of Skies (Gerry Thompson and Rob
Whitekettle) newest CD - Leave Me Alone. It's one of my all time
favorites of his about what happens in your mind when something
something catches your fancy (but you still love your wife).

"Just Kiss Me and break my little heart,"
"Just Kiss Me, it'll tear my world apart.....

Enjoy

Jim--

I've tried twice to download "Support the Troops" but on my slow dial-up connection, it times out before I can get it to download. Is there any way to make the files smaller?

Love what I've managed to hear of your music, BTW. Wish you and JIK could get together with your gutbuckets--they would sound awesome, I'll bet! If you're ever in Kansas...

My brothers live in Kansas City and Atcheson. So there is definitely a chance I'll be a visiting some day.

I don't know how to get the files any smaller. I can usually download them and save them, then play them without timing out. I have the same problem with trying to click and play them online.

Guts -

I found that trying to download the files before the page finished loading seemed to cause errors, hung up the browser, and got no results. The background music (autoplay) seems to start before all the rest of the stuff was done loading, and it was hard to tell when it was safe to start clicking on things.

By just leaving the page up while I read the day's newsrag, washed a few dishes, etc. - when I came back the downloads worked okay, although with our connection they run close to 10+ minutes per song to download.

BUT - LiK now has the four that were posted, and they sound great. (She let me listen to them, after I got them downloaded for her.)

There is nothing better than being close by! Hope to see both you and
Lin in Kansas sometime. I'd also love to see/hear how your double tub bass works. I've been admiring it for years.

GutBucketeer -

The WVA festival is about the only place I've taken it recently, but "demand" has been high enough that I'll probably take it along again this year. (Official WVA news or Unofficial Useful WVA news).

Of course, I've only got about 90 days to get packed, so it may be a bit rushed.

Very Interesting! JiK!

I have been using "Free Download Manager" for some time, and it functions as you might expect, only starting up when you would expect it to - such as when you right click to dnld a file, or what is at the end of a url link. It will happily try and 'download the internet' - as they say - offering to do so pretty well recursively from all the links on any page you are on... thus you can dnld all mp3s on the page you are on, etc. But I could not get it to download anything from GB's link.

However just testing a new Bkg Dndler - "Internet Download Manager", and as Sodom as GBs link page opened, it immediately popped up and offered to dnld a file called "30250615_7f27aa65.mp3" !!!! Possibly the 'background music' file?

Sodom! - Holy Gomorrah, that damn spelling checker again!

SOON!!!

Fascinatinger & Fascinatinger!!!!

They both rely on the 'sliced sausage is delivered faster than whole sausage' model.

So far, they seem to be able to run together, simultaneously doing downloads!

FDM is much more friendly for dialup, allowing you to set 3 levels (L,M,H) for the total percentage of dnld capacity chewed up by FDM- High can be 100% or a specified Kb/Sec thruput. It can thus chew away at a low permanent thruput, while net surfing normally. It sometimes backs off in the thruput level, to allow other net traffic, but apparently, not always. It quite often locks up though, and when things such as IE windows stop responding (as in connecting to the Mudcat threads), you need the Vulcan Nerve pinch to get to the process menu to kill the fdm.exe.

IDM just looks like IE download on coloured steroids, and you CAN get access to a console to allow you start and stop each dnld individually - but it just gulps the whole available bandwidth. It DOES have a 'site grabber' which I haven't tried yet. It seems less crashable than FDM though. Unlike FDM, it doesn't seem to want to back off and let go to allow other net thruput though.

FDM just chews away automatically at a dnld list, and you can specify how many concurrent ones can run, and even the total number of threads per site, etc, set and forget. IDM just does as many dnlds as you tell it to manually. When they stop, no others are started automatically.

FDM isn't easy to instantly stop all dnlds, as if you stop one, the bugger just starts the next on the list (which CAN be useful) - you need to shut it down to 'stop all', while IDM does have a 'stop all' button.

The thruput for IDM 'seems' faster - maybe the algorithms for talking to the remote site are better.

Will soon be able to hear GBs songs - all 4 nearly completed now!

IDM is an unregistered trial version, and does not allow prioritization of downloads, whereas FDM is freeware, and allows 5 levels of priority, which can be changed on the fly.

FDM does not automatically show the file size - you have to manually request this - IDM shows all file sizes automatically.

With the site grabbing feature, FDM allows you to allow the small files to be grabbed first via the priority feature.

However, IDM allowed me to get GBs stuff easier and faster than from other MySpace sites I have been at!

Now I can say that I do like the songs!

Hope these comparisons are useful to others of you too!

Thanks for the info on the download managers. I also use dial up, and at times have thought my PC was broken, especially with Myspace.

Thanks for liking the songs too!

Look GUTZ -

You have been lingering, and feathering, and refreshing this thread for over two weeks.

You finally have what you wanted "recognition" .... and it is from a FOOL!

(crappy song, horrible introduction, and out of a folk-fest-audience of 15,000 your wife and child are the only two responding)

However, PTL, it is finally AMERICAN POSTING in content.

Or are those really HAVANA'S posted on the box-cover?

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

You have a poor introduction line on your thread. (Not to mention - most mudders are polite and ignore comments when the music sucks.) Post something like "I Eat Bush" or "Save GoodLad - Destroy BagDad" will give you many more "peace lovin' wimen" clustering into your thread like you had a "stick O candy - nine inch long."
