He's appeared here many times, including, of course, the memorable time he helped put us on the map via BBC Radio Two's National Music Day in 1992.

I've seen this man; how can someone be so hilariously stupid one minute and then such a passionate and emotive singer / musician the next!

Get yourselves to Middlewich (Boar's Head) on 19th. May; Stanley Accrington is just one of those artists you simply have to see and at only £6 a ticket, it's a steal!

Josher,

I am informed that Crewe Alexandra is a local football (soccer, to our American friends) team.

Football is, as you may know, a popular game featuring some people kicking a ball around a field to little real purpose.

The 'Alex', as some people are wont to call the team, are based in the famous railway town of Crewe which can be found quite near to Middlewich, the cultural capital of Cheshire.

Other famous Alex's include my grandson.

He's called Alex, by the way.

Well many thanks to all who came along to support us and to see Stanley in all his magnificence.
One hesitates to use the word 'genius', of course, as it's too easily bandied about these days, but really there is no other word for Mr Accrington.
It's quite a long time since we saw him in action, and to be truthful, we'd forgotten just how brilliant he can be.
We'll certainly be having him back in Middlewich again before too long.

I take it you'll be performing 'Last Train To Bacup'?

Actually my brother has lived in Sale since leaving Middlewich nearly forty years ago and is slowly becoming accepted by the natives. He's a lot posher than I am (who isn't?) and started his working life at the Cheshire County Council's education department.

He retired early from Trafford's Education Department, the same place where one S.Dent, who you may know, used to work. Small world ain't it?

I think it helps that Sale was, at one time, in the County of Cheshire. So they'll know class when they see it.

After the excellent StanAcc gig last Friday more than one person has asked us why artists such as he are not booked for the Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival any more.

I've told them all that they should take this up with the festival director and/or members of the committee.

I couldn't agree more about Stan and his amazing talent, as to why he and others like him are not booked, well I have my theories but let's just say it's perhaps a case of Glitz or could that be sparkley triumphing over substance.
