Subject: Tune Req: Anyone got the dots for Delilah by Tom J
From: Sarah the flute
Date: 11 May 06 - 11:54 AM

Has anyone out there got the sheet music for Tom Jones' Delilah? We are thinking of doing this. I have guitar tabs but we could do with the dots.

Thanks in advance for help

Sarah

Oh, gee. That song is going to be running through my head all day now. Why don't songs that I like stick in my head like that?
Maybe I secretly like the song, and can't even admit it to myself...
Good luck finding the dots, Sarah.
-Joe Offer-

DELILAH
(Les Reed, Sylvan Whittingham Mason & Barry Mason)

[Intro]

I saw the light on the night that I passed by her window
I saw the flickering shadow of love on her blind
She was my woman
As she deceived me I watched and went out of my mind

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why Delilah
I could see, that girl was no good for me
But I was lost like a slave that no man could free

At break of day when that man drove away I was waiting
I crossed the street to her house and she opened the door
She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why Delilah
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore

[Instrumental]

She stood there laughing
I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more

My, my, my Delilah
Why, why, why Delilah
So before they come to break down the door
Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore
Forgive me Delilah I just couldn't take anymore

Oh c'mon someone's got to admit to having them. It's going to be good. We want to include a swanee whistle and also mass tin whistles in unison.

Why Why Why indeed Joe!

Cheers

Sarah

..as good as Tom's 'definitive' version of this song is..

mustn't forget The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's audacious glam-rock heavy guitar riffing rendition of 'Delilah'!!!

Oh I do love this song! It brings back such memories. It was big in 1968 when I was traveling in Italy and there was a cover of it in Italian with a chorus that went,

"Mai, mai, mai ti lascio
"Mai, mai, mai da sola"

Which means "never never never will I leave you alone." It worked well with "My, my my, Delilah, Why Why Why Delilah" but the meaning was entirely different!

When I told my Italian friends that the English version was about infidelity, murder and punishment, and not a loving promise, they said, "Oh, that sounds like a much better song!" Always wondered about that....

Here's a version from memory; it's possible Tom Jones was a bit less strict with the rhythm than I've been here. I've put in those little fills in the 2nd voice (I didn't fill the voice in completely, but abcm2ps handles it fine) - just delete V:2 onwards if your program doesn't handle them. I've also sketched in some basic chords for it. The 2nd ending does the lead-in to the coda and the coda itself (you'll see).

Excuse my ignorance of modern tech' but am I missing something here?
You said you had the guitar tabs (Tabliture yes?) and could do with the dots.
Shurely if you have the tabs its not hard to write the dots??
I thought that you wanted the dots in another key away from the standard am key for this song.
Then I see that your sorted with mcp's post that is in am anyway!!
This is such a well known song, why would you need the dots in am ?
sorry but its probably me
just wondering.
I play this one, and it does go down well esp' if you keep it till later when they've all had a drink!
