I don't know, because I live in London now and have for many years, but i'm from Bideford and would like to know as well.

I could maybe link it up with a trip to see my folks. I didn't even know they held a Folk festival. Went to their folk night in the Joiners Arms last year, it was a great night if I remember ;-D

I've seen a flyer for it - but IIRC it's happening between Sidmouth / Dartmoor and Whitby, so I doubt whether I'll get to it.

Scooby - have you tried Googling for a festival website?

Kitty

Yes! Should be great.

Bideford (in North Devon) is my home patch. I waited til the web-site was updated before starting a thread but you beat me too it. It's almost up to date now, but look out for even more being added.

For instance, as well as the singarounds and sessions every lunch time and evening there are now plans for the afternoons as well.

Debs, this is the 3rd year of the festival and it has grown from very small beginnings. Glad you enjoyed the Folk Club - it's every Thursday night in the Joiners Arms and we love having visitors drop in to sing, play or just listen.

Anyone's welcome to PM me for further info.

Sue

We went last year and enjoyed it. Camping wasn't brilliant but I understand they have sorted that all out.

My sister and I are making the looooong trip down from Derby so I hope my little car makes it! We have been talked into going by a group of lovely people we met in Upton this year, and decided a random 4 hour car journey and camping was somehow a brilliant idea! According to said Bideford friends, if you go to the town during the day you wouldn't really know anything was going on, but there's more happening at night and the weekend, and of course, the seaside :)

We're also doing Towersey the weekend after, and at 18 & 21 yrs old, have never camped at folk festivals, so if you see us looking hungry and orphaned, please throw a sandwich our way :)

Louise

Thought I should refind this thread, since Bideford Folk Festival (in North Devon) is coming up very soon! 14th-20th August.

Miskin Man posted a blue clicky for the festival on 11th May - but sadly a whole column has suddenly fallen off the website 'programme' page!!!! Do have a look and if you still need specific info PM me soon (cos I'm off to Sidmouth on Thursday) or ring one of the contact numbers.

The venues for the music and song sessions are given on the 'Pub Sessions' page. They'll be happening lunchtime and evening all week and throughout the weekend. There are other 'folk friendly' spaces which are available too for people who want to sing, play, storytell or listen.

Hello folks we that is Angie Wright and I will be down there for the week of the festival. Angie will be looking for a few places to sing and play ,me to drink and get in a bit of rock climbing.
Angie has a new CD out of self penned songs and if anyone wants to buy one or two we will have some with us plus some of her first solo CD and that of Taggart and Wright.

If you cannot get there to hear Angie go to

Hi Cllr,
Song sessions are at the Joiners Arms lunchtimes and evenings and are led by Lucy & Kev Burrow, Roger Bryant, Ian Hudson and Gwilym Davies. Tonight there is also singing on board the kathleen and May and in the Blacksmiths Arms. Music sessions are at the Joiners Arms, Wheels bar and the Blacksmiths Arms on different evenings. There is also a teatime at the Bethel tues - Fri 4.30 - 6 which I think is a concerty type thingy but which you can sign up to sing in. Wednesday night at the Blacksmiths The Old Bridge band are playing, Thursday the Dambuskers, Friday Joiners Arms Big Sing 8pm with Dave Webber and Anni Fentiman, Roger Bryant, and other festival guests and yourselves. Depending on what the Dr says tomorrow, we thought we might go up at some point this week before going up to WHFF at the weekend, all being well.
Cats.
xx
PS Congrats on the amazing amount collected for the lifeboat... I found a blue stripped T shirt yesterday in Truro, so I'm almost ready for next year.. still looking for an inflatable parrot.....

Cats,

'STRIPPED' T-shirt - I'm not going shopping with you again. The world just couldn't take the two of us stripped! (And anyway we end up spurring each other on to buy, as in Crediton.) But your above outfit sounds just too much like The Emperors New Clothes!

See you at WHFF.

Polly.

Well I am back from the festival and had a great time. Angie sang most days at the afternoon session in the Bethel but missed the free cream teas on Friday!
Angie also made several appearances at the Joiners and at Wheels Bar, and we even managed to sell a few CDs to help fund the trip.

The best part of the festival was listening to Kevin Brown at the Blues concert in Wheels bar. WOW! Even Angie was impressed.

Well done to everyone on the committee and a special hello to Sue the Borderer who made us most welcome.
We hope the committee book Angie for next years festival.

Kevin Brown is at   www.slideguitarschool.com

Angie Wright is at   www.sky-web.net/taggartandwright/

PS THe rock climbing went well.

We also enjoyed our week immensely, the festival was very well organised and everyone was very friendly, there were plenty of opportunities for those of us that like to sing, and the acoustics in the Bethel were fantastic. The campsite was great, real loos, and showers big enough for two (so they tell me!!!!!) and we enjoyed the pay as you go idea, as we prefer singarounds but were able to enjoy a few concerts along the way, Sue was absolutely brilliant in encouraging new singers, and welcoming others, and we got lots of good tips from Dave & Annie's singing workshop, so thanks to all who made it a brilliant week.
PS thanks Fred & Liz for the chariot rides :-)
