I learned the song from a Joan Baez recording. I seem to remember only five verses.

Kumbya, my Lord, Kumbya... Someone's singing Lord, Kumbya... Someone's crying Lord, Kumbya... Someone's praying Lord, Kumbya... Kumbya, my Lord, Kumbya...

Pete Seeger's version [Folkways FA2412]

"Someone's sleeping", "Someone's praying", "Someone's singing" All verses sung 3x followed by "Oh, Lord, kum-ba-ya"

According to the accompanying notes, the hymn was originally American, "Come by Here, Lord", found its way to Africa (Angola), and came back again as Kum-ba-ya. That's more than you asked for, or care to know, but its free.

Blmpilot,

We had a short discussion of this song several months ago. For more information, click here.

Mudcatters,

I recall a longer discussion, but I cannot find it in the forum.
