Well, it's only been about 2 years since I've posted...

Anyway, I saw the New South sing "You can have her, I don't want her, she didn't love me anyway"...
I like it a lot, but can't remember the lyrics, except for the chorus.
I searched Digitrad & Forum without success.

Thanks in Advance

The only part I remember is

I don't want her, you can have her
She's too fat for me.

I think it was my brother who used to sing that - a long time ago.

Is this the same song my Dad used to sing? "You can have her, I don't want her, she's to fat for me".
It never had any more words than that when he sang it.
And the tune was similar to Knees Up Mother Brown (last bit)

From LyricsDownload.com:

You Can Have Her
Roy Hamilton
(written by B.Cook)

- (#12 in 1961)

Well, you can have her, I don't want her,
She didn't love me anyway.
She only wanted someone to play with
But all I wanted was love to stay.

Well, you get stuck with the wrong woman
There's only one thing that you can do:
Just dig a hole and jump right in it,
And pull the ground right over you.

(Chorus)
Well, you can have her (you can have her) I don't want her ( I don't
want her),
She didn't love me (didn't love me ) anyway (anyway).
She only wanted (only wanted) someone to play with (one to lay with)
But all I wanted (all I wanted) was love to stay (was love to stay).

The girl I love, she, up and left me,
She ran away with my best friend.
Comes home at night just for an hour
When day light comes she's gone again.

(Chorus)

Life without love is mighty empty,
But confession's good for the soul.
I'd rather have love that I can cling to
Than have the world and all of it's gold.

(You can have her) you can have her, (I don't want her) I don't want
her,
(She didn't love you) She didn't love me, (anyway) anyway.
(She only wanted) she only wanted (someone to play with) some one to
play with
(But all I wanted) Ohhhhhhhh!(was love to stay)Ohhhhhhhhh!

You can have her (you can have her)
IIiiiiiiii don't want her (I don't want her)
She didn't love me (didn't love me) anyway (anyway)
She only wanted (only wanted) someone to play with (someone to play
with)
But all I want (all I want)
All I want (all I want)
All I want (all I want)
All I want (all I want) . . . .

Hey, Socorro: How nice to see you stop by... how about dropping by the kitchen table thread some time. It would be wonderful to talk with you. I have the Roy Hamilton song on CD... in case you're interested. Roy Hamilton was one of my favorite singers... he had a short-live career. He also did a great song title Don't Let Go.

I miss seeing you in here, Socorro. All is beautiful with Ruth, me and the Gospel Messengers...

Subject: Lyr Add: TOO FAT POLKA (MacLean, Richardson)
From: catspaw49
Date: 21 May 06 - 09:22 PM

Geeziz......I'm a kid again this week! Let's see, first it was my old man's Ink Spots records and now as I recall he had this one done by the Andrews Sisters. Let's put this sucker to rest even though it's the wrong song............

TOO FAT POLKA (She's Too Fat For Me)
by Ross MacLean and Arthur Richardson

Here's a silly ditty, you can sing it right away
Now, here is what you say
So sing it while you may
Here's a silly jingle, you can sing it night or noon
Here's the words, that's all you need
'Cause I just sang the tune:

Oh, I don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
I don't want her, you can have her,
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat
    She's too fat
    She's too fat for me

I get dizzy
I get numbo
When I'm dancing
With my Jum-Jum-Jumbo

I don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
I don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat
    She's too fat
    She's too fat for me

Can she prance up a hill?
    No, no, no, no, no
Can she dance a quadrille?
    No, no, no, no, no
Does she fit in your coupe?
    By herself she's a group
Could she possibly
Sit upon your knee?
    No, no, no

We don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
And she's too fat for me
But she's just right for me
We don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    Yeah, she's too fat,
    Much too fat
But she's just right for me

She's so charming
And she's so winning
But it's alarming
When she goes in swimming

We don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
But she's just right for me
So I sure want her, you can't have her
    She's just right for me
    But she's too fat!
    She's not too fat!
    She's just right for me!

She's a twosome,
She's a foursome
If she'd lose some
I would like her more some

I don't want her, you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat for me
I don't want her you can have her
    She's too fat for me
    She's too fat
    Much too fat
    She's too fat for me
    Hey!

I hope we're forgiven for talking about "Too Fat Polka" in this thread, but the original request was answered. I guess the "Too Fat" recording I remember, is the one by Arthur Godfrey. Since I grew up in the Milwaukee area, I heard it performed by lots of people - probably at a good number of weddings. It was a hit for Frankie Yankovic, too; and the Andrews Sisters also recorded it. So did Bobby Vinton, whom I've heard called The Polish Prince." Jimmy Sturr did a more recent recording, so "Too Fat" ain't dead yet. The song was written in 1947. That means it's older than I am, Khandu.

Aw, 'spaw, thanks for posting the Too Fat Polka. Everyone in my family loved it and my sister and I always sang along with the record. I think our record was probably by Arthur Godfrey, too. And, I am older than the song....

Ya' know I remember Arthur Godfrey having a big hit with Too Fat and doing it on his shows at times as well, but I didn't mention him as frankly I really disliked the stupid big goof. I know exactly where he needed to put that Uke too.........Dunno' why, just something in that attitude/voice/facial expression......Dubya has the same effect on me but he needs a bass fiddle up his ass instead.

Well after he fired Julius LaRosa in that obnoxious way I liked him a lot less myself. I still like the songs I learned from him, though.

I don't think the PC brigade would like that song in this day and age, it's probably what they would now call 'sizeist'
Sad isn't it?
