Jim was found dead in his bed on Thursday by the Police, Stan Croft and Ian Denny, this evening. He has been a stalwart of the Jazz, Blues and Folk scenes in the N.E. of England for the last 40 odd years. Never will The "Free Mexican Airforce" sound the same again. When I know the funeral arraingements I will Post them.
I will miss him.

Daffydd

Jim seems to have been around the folk scene in Teesside since the beginning of time.
A hugely talented jazz guitarist, he help to develop the diversity of music heard in clubs in this area.
He played with the best and was one of the best.
I feel much sorrow to hear of his passing.

Someone I haven't seen or thought of for probably 30 years or more, since my days as a regular in the Teesside clubs. I'm sorry to hear he's gone.

The one and only - Jim Wright .
A unique and warm individual.
The music scene (especially around Teesside) will be much poorer without him .
God bless ya Jim.

Jim was such a nice man and as everyone has said has been around and involved in the music scene on Teesside for over 40 years. He, along with Stan Croft and Johnny Handle, started Stockton Folk club. He was a regular at the Cutty Wren and I will always remember him singing Chelsea Morning.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I loved Jim singing "I'm too old to die young" and pestered him mercilessly until he eventually gave me the sheet music.
A great and unique character who will be missed.

A hugely interesting character, the king of all name droppers. Only a week before he dies he was telling us all he was going back to his folk roots, and mentioned that he once jammed with Nick Drake. A fantastic musician with huge drive and a rare ability to inspire others. I wish I'd got to hear him playing from his "folk roots". What a loss to Teeside.

Jim's only remaining relatives are his cousins (10 in all) and their families. 5 of his cousins, plus 1 by marriage, were able to attend his funeral and wake on Monday 12 June and would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all his friends, especially Ian Denney and Stan Croft for the arrangements they had made in organising Jim's funeral prior to the family learning about his death and to Tim Lamb for the touching words he said at the funeral. It was a truly memorable occasion and a great tribute to Jim and has given us an opportunity to meet the people who featured so largely in our shy cousin's life. As has been said before, Jim was a one off, a hugely talented modest man who obviously was loved and respected by many. Thank you all again for the parts you played in Jim's life.
