Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 27 Jun 06 - 07:15 PM Well, chaps, one and all. Have finally tracked down the elusive Mr Butler. And, having made the offer he couldn't possibly refuse..... He has agreed... So, watch this space, I couldn't possibly say more at this moment. Ralph |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 27 Jun 06 - 07:06 PM Fecking hell Rich. That time Pierce sang Lark in the Clear air is one of my favoutite memories of Towersey. Abso fucking lutely double fantastic |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,old git Date: 27 Jun 06 - 09:15 AM just picked up this thread still have this picture of Pierce and Steve Heap sitting on the bar in the Sub(Pier Hotel) at Cleethorpes festival conducting a singaround. Cleethorpes fest is still going strong Pierce....but of course no longer on the Pier. My version of Dainty Davy is still very much like the one I heard you sing a lot of years ago geoff turner |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,Richard Wastling Date: 27 Jun 06 - 08:40 AM Glad to hear you're well Pierce and that Ralph has found you - we miss your wonderful singing and your cheeky grin! It's now 27 years since you hung Lisa over the parapet on Cleethorpes Pier! Lisa is now a very fit climber and could probably do that to you! As Tom & Barbara said, that should stop you feeling well! We're still running the Beverley Folk Club and any time you are around we'd love to see you - on the proviso you sing 'Lark in the Clear Air' with Helen on harmonium. Love to you and yours, Richard, Jean & Lisa xxx |

Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: BB Date: 26 Jun 06 - 02:22 PM Good to see you're still around, Pierce. Long time no see. Our daughters, Rowan and Freya, are now 33 and 30 respectively - that'll stop you feeling well! Rowan, at least, remembers you! If you're ever in North Devon again, 'twould be good to see you. Tom & Barbara Brown |

Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 13 Jun 06 - 07:36 AM Ralphie Have found two numbers in an old diary they are 01844 202545 or 01908 534510. Just done a code search and 01844 is Thame iin Hertfordshire and 01908 is Wolverton next to Milton Keynes. Haven't tried them so let me know. If you get in touch he may know me as Shuggie. Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Kevin Sheils Date: 13 Jun 06 - 03:52 AM Well there's a slow process available to you Ralphie, but if you have the time and are reasonably convinced that Northamptonshire is probable it may be worth it. Put Butler P and the location Northamptonshire in the bt.com phonebook search. If you just put Northampton you will be limited to that town only. Unfortunately the county name throws up a lot of listings for Oxfordshire Cambs Leics etc that border it. A quick scan down the list gave me at least two in Daventry one in Northampton and one in Rushden and that was before I got to the listings with a secong initial for example there's also a P D Butler in Rushden. As I said this is a slow process and assumes that he's not ex directory and the phone's in his name. Then you need to be most diplomatic in ringing people who aren't him to eliminate that number. When I've had to do soemthing similar most people are OK about you calling to track down someone with a similar name, just don't mention Double Glazing! |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 13 Jun 06 - 02:00 AM Thanks MC and Kit (Hello!) The Wilsons here I come! But probably not at 7 o'clock in the morning!! The Quest continues... Thanks all Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Herga Kitty Date: 12 Jun 06 - 06:58 PM I second MCF's advice - the last time I saw Mr Butler was at Warwick festival a few years ago, with the Wilsons. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 12 Jun 06 - 10:06 AM Fairly sure it was Northamptonshire. Try one of the Wilson's Ralphie he was an 'honoury' member. |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 12 Jun 06 - 08:41 AM Yep! Makes complete sense to me, typical Butler! Still haven't found the bugger though. If he's in Northamptonshire, he's not voting for anyone, and hasn't got a phone!!! God, I haven't got to trawl around all the counties north of London have I??? Thanks for the inputs guys and gals. He can't stay hidden forever can he? Regards Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 12 Jun 06 - 07:25 AM As an MC and compere I Must say that pierce in action was fantastic on stage. He was compering at Toweresy and one of the Dransfields was playing a solo gig (lets say it was Barry) he came up to Pierce and said 'I've heard about you no funny stuff just introduce me.' Pierce went on stage and said something like 'Next up a man who needs little introduction ...Robin Dransfield's brother' |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Kevin Sheils Date: 11 Jun 06 - 01:09 PM Yes but I'm sure Pierce Butler was a Pierce! My wife sandra seems to recall that his daughter was an irish dancer but not the Jean Butler of Riverdance fame. Good luck with the searching Ralph. Tracking down old friends can be an interesting exercise as I have found. I'm sure he was no relation to Johnny Butler of Steeleye Span roadie fame, who's photo is on the back of the Hark the Village Wait LP and is also Mr Reservoir Butler I believe. Amazing what a simple posting for info can trigger in one's mind. |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 10 Jun 06 - 08:56 AM Ireland has some Pearses, as a first name, probably after Padraig Pearse the 1916 patriot. |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 Jun 06 - 08:37 AM In the US, there have been at least 2 famous people named Pierce Butler. One (1744-1822) was a "founding father"; the other (1866-1939) was a Supreme Court Justice. They both had Irish connections. Neither "Pierce" nor "Pearse" is a common first name in the US. Coincidence? Family connection? |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST Date: 10 Jun 06 - 08:09 AM Antiques??? Mr Fat. He is one!!! LOL Thanks for that! Bonnie Hi.. How perverse is that sort of spelling...Might has well have made it "Purse" (not that he was known for ever oppening his!) Indeed a handshake will be forthcoming if I ever track the bugger down (Real men don't do hugs, but you....that's a different story!) Thanks all, keep digging, he's out there somewhere! Kind regards Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 10 Jun 06 - 07:30 AM Last saw him at Whitby a few years ago. I believe he is dabbling in antiques and was living in Northamptonshire. Perhaps if you try antique dealers in Yellow Pages ? He was also big mates with the Wilsons. If you get in touch I wouldn't mind a contact number. Jim McDonald |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Kevin Sheils Date: 10 Jun 06 - 07:14 AM I should have guessed you'd have tried that route. I'm really surprised as they didn't seem too surprised to see him. In fact when I expressed my surprise to Alan Bearman that I'd seen him I think he said that he'd been to a few recent festivals, wonder if the Mrs Casey office have contact details but maybe he didn't buy advance tickets and only popped in for the day. Again you've probably tried that, and Sheila Miller? |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 10 Jun 06 - 07:13 AM If you're googling, try spelling his first name "Pearse" which I think is the correct way, tho am not sure. There was just a post in another e-forum about this great fella - if you find him, give him a hug from me. (OK, Ralphie, you can make it a handshake...) |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,Ralphie Yes that one!! Date: 10 Jun 06 - 06:01 AM Hi Kev. Have already done Coe,Adams,Heap,Bearman,Watson....etc Even considered Ian Blake in Oz!!! I just want to make him an offer he can't refuse!! Cheers Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Pierce Butler UK From: Kevin Sheils Date: 10 Jun 06 - 05:26 AM Is that Ralphie who is not always a guest! Pierce was at last years Towersey and dropped in to the session with the Ryburn folks that I MC'd in the Village Hall. Come to think of it it might have been two years ago but I think it was last year (Towersey can be like that). I got the impression that he is still in reasonably regular contact with the Ryburn crowd so a query to Pete Coe or John Adams may help. Cheers Kevib |
Subject: Pierce Butler UK From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 10 Jun 06 - 03:44 AM Hello all. Can I use the vast resource that is the "Cat" to try and track down Pierce. He was a one time drummer/Perc player with (amongst others) New Victory Band and (Penny) Hop in the '80s. Anybody out there know of his whereabouts. Thanks in advance Ralphie |
