Subject: Song Identification From: Orlando Jackson Date: 22 Feb 99 - 11:14 AM So, there's this song I sort of know, but I don't know the name of it, or who sings it, or if these are really al the lyrics. It goes like this: Is that the moon I see over there in the west? It's just the headlight's gleam From the B&O Express, I know she's gone, Whatever I say, it won't be long Before I've made up my mind And gone away. Is that the sun coming up Over the eastern shore? It's just the coalbed's glow Behind the firebox door, I know she's gone... Did you see that fool out on the trestle The blind old man, can't hear the whistle He can't go up & he can't go back Train kept a-comin', brushed him off the track. Other storms may blow And other winds may rise I want to go Where the fast freight flies, I know she's gone... Anyone know what this is? Thanks, OJ |
Subject: RE: Song Identification From: rick fielding Date: 22 Feb 99 - 11:21 AM "Goin' Away", by Bruce "Utah" Phillips. Recorded by the author. Also a good version by "Fennig's All Stars" on Philo. |
Subject: RE: Song Identification From: Sandy Paton Date: 22 Feb 99 - 05:19 PM Jim Ringer also recorded a dandy version of Utah's song (on Folk-Legacy, of course). By the way, I'm fairly sure that it's the C&O, not the B&O. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Song Identification From: Wally Macnow Date: 22 Feb 99 - 05:53 PM It's "C&O" in Bruce's songbook "Starlight On The Rails" Wally |
