Otley folk club and Myspace

as a regular of Otley folk club IMHO one of the best clubs in england with a regular attendance on singers nights that would be the rival of any club it's not suprising to find many of the regulars featuring on myspace pages (10 at the last count) feel free to correct me if I am wrong there. Is any other folk club in england blessed with so much local talent?

Lots of clubs in the uk with excellent local talent - as indeed has Otley. And this wednesday's singers night is a prime example - The Pipers Sons (three of whom are very talented, anyway, he said quickly) are doing an extended spot!

Not to take anything away from Steve who is doing a marvelous job of running the club and the tree festivals he is involved in, it was like that before Steve took over running the club. On my first visit to the clubaround fifteen years ago one singers night, as well as all the local singers and players there were Allan Taylor, Ewen Carruthers and John Birkby a daunting group to follow as a seasoned performer let alone for a novice singer guitarist.

Iremember I had a great gig at Otley folk club 15 YEARS AGO , it was well attended,the audience was responsive,if i remember correctly it was run by a man who owned a bicycle shop, it was certainly a comfortable and easy ride as a gig. Dick Miles

Steve runs some great folk festivals too - (he doesn't invite me into the forest very often so I don't know about his tree fests), but do I have him to thank for getting me back into folk music - as does Duncan. I'd be a regular at Otley too if I wasn't so often away on the road.

There sure are 'early' - many a time I gig somewhere else other than my 'home' club (Otley) and I'm allus intrigued by the wealth of talent wher'er I go.
There are some grand residents and floor-spotters in most places - that's folk for ya!
Sometimes it seems some clubs' residents (et al) read like a who's who of the folk-scene.

Asolutely..and to add to this there is a beer and folk fest.in Leeds this Friday...with Duncan McF. as the last act and all day Saturday with huge numbers of great Yorks folks including Keepers'Fold....should be a great weekend and all for charity. See you there?
