Subject: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: Alex Date: 22 Feb 99 - 08:54 PM We just had the most amazing and hilarious concert at the lake county folk club (Illinois) and I'd like to commend The Arrogant Worms to other presenters of acoustic music who are looking for something (completely) different for their venues. A day later, my jaws are still sore from all the laughter. The Worms are a totally original trio with all original material and a fresh stage presentation. They have funny songs, funny banter and they do it all without profanity or sexual innuendo. (Well, perhaps about the sex habits of vegetables, but nothing that you couldn't let the kids hear.) They are very well-known from radio shows in their native Canada and they have set out to conquer America but have found it dauntingly large for three guys to cover. Perhaps other Mudcatters who have seen them will add their own tales and recommendations to this thread. Their web page is at (here goes, Joe) http://www.arrogant-worms.com |

Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: RS Date: 22 Feb 99 - 11:14 PM First saw them _before_ they became famous, at the All Folks Festival in their home town of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Hysterically funny! Our favourites: The Last Saskatchewan Pirate The Christmas Song ...both on their first CD, originally titled "The Arrogant Worms". |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: Jack Hickman - Kingston, Ontario Date: 23 Feb 99 - 12:01 AM It's nice to see all the positive comments about the "worms." They're not really home town boys, but they got their start while students at Queens Univesity in this city. They built up quite a fan base here, then went on to conquer Toronto and points west before heading to the states. I would second the suggest given above that you should tell your friends about them. They are real entertainers. If nothing else, the "Saskatchewan River Pirate" and "Jesus' brother Bob" alone would be worth the price of admission Keep the Faith. Jack Hickman |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 14 Mar 07 - 03:14 PM I was just doing a search and found this thread from 1999. I have seen the Worms several times in the last few years and think they are wonderful performers. I see they will be at Old Songs this year. Any other U.S. fans? It does seem as thought they have not caught on yet in the U.S. and that puzzles me. Are there more fans out there? |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: GLoux Date: 14 Mar 07 - 03:38 PM They were at the 2006 Philadelphia Folk Festival so I'm sure there are some U.S. fans. |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: JohnB Date: 14 Mar 07 - 04:57 PM They were at Old Songs Festival a few years ago, I think they could be there this year as well? JohnB |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: JohnB Date: 14 Mar 07 - 04:58 PM Oh yes, forgot to say they are totally Brilliant too. JohnB |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: Ref Date: 14 Mar 07 - 06:35 PM They've been to Old Songs twice and are on the performer list for this year. Their songs and set pieces are hilarious, but the real reward is to catch them in the workshops where they produce wicked little zingers about their co-workshoppers, themselves, and the audience. If these guys can't make you laugh, you have problems. |

Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 15 Mar 07 - 09:11 PM That's pretty funny too! But I still think that the Carrot Juice one is the best. |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 16 Mar 07 - 08:26 AM It is good to see that folks here in the U.S. are becoming more aware of them. I think they are brilliant and I am looking forward to seeing them once again at Old Songs! |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: sciencegeek Date: 16 Mar 07 - 05:46 PM oh boy.... I've only heard their song about turning pirate on the canals but it is a rip.... guess we're going to Old Songs this year ...lol |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 16 Mar 07 - 07:18 PM Sheryl and I are both are Worms fans. I think we have between us almost all of their CDs. The one thing we have unfortunately **not** succeeded in is actually seeing them in concert. Unfotunately, Old Songs and PFF are both at bad times for us, and nobody down here in the DC area seems to have gotten the memo that they'd probably sell out a Worms show. -- Gary |

Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: SharonA Date: 10 Aug 07 - 12:45 PM Oh, God, I'm the Easter Bunny... oh, God, I'm the Easter Bunny... Yup, I'm a Worms fan, too. And I'm depressed: they've appeared in Bethehem PA, an hour away from me, no less than THREE times this summer, and I haven't gotten up there to see them for any of those concerts. Now Ron tells me I can see them on September 15th if I drive for two hours, but I can't get away that day, either. :,^( One bright spot is that the Folk Factory in Philadelphia is planning to schedule them for the upcoming concert season. Only 35 minutes away -- yay! But can I wait that long....? |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 10 Aug 07 - 03:33 PM Sharon, I wish you could change your plans and make the trip! In addition to the Arrogant Worms we have a terrific opening act - The Second Fiddles. They are an old-time string band from NYC that I find simply amazing. To have both groups on the same stage will make for a memorable evening of music. I am so excited to kick off our new season and new venue with these artists! I am counting down the days! |

Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: GUEST,'Ray Bucknell Date: 10 Aug 07 - 08:26 PM I've been a Worms fan for the past six years or so; a friend had seen them at Old Songs then and compared them to the Chad Mitchell Trio only much younger, all-Canadian, and funny in a different way, so I had to check them out. Different is right! Funny goes without saying. I saw them on Long Island five years ago at the Huntington Summer Arts Festival where the free outdoor show was rained out but management took those of us who braved the elements and stayed in the park inside onto the closed-off stage, where the Worms did an intimate acoustic set that just killed. My then-9-year-old son sat inches from them and was duly impressed as well. We've got a number of their CDs, as well as their DVD, and my favorite song changes depending on what I've listened to most recently (my son likes "I Ran Away" and "Dad Threw Up on Christmas Day". The Worms are terrific entertainers and I hope to see them again live in the near future. 'Ray |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: robomatic Date: 11 Aug 07 - 02:37 AM My brother got me their album "Russel's Shorts" which I shared with the good people of Alaska (the two or three that tuned in to my university radio show). Gaelic song is always good for St. Paddy's day. Also liked "Rippy The Gator" They would have fitted in real well with that wonderful Canadian Show "The Frantics" |
Subject: RE: The Arrogant Worms - Recommended From: John O'L Date: 11 Aug 07 - 03:00 AM I stumbled accross them by accident some time ago on the Stupid Videos site, singing Happy Birthday. Very clever. |
