I am going to be there for sure. I'm not sure if Judy can get out of work early on Friday but I'll check. It takes us about an hour to reach South Portland from our home, even when we know the directions.

Of course, we don't know WHICH neighbor's house this concert is taking place at, but I'm sure if we go door-to-door we can narrow it down.

I've put in a request to get out of work early. The guy who approves such requests is out this week, but looking at the schedule there should be no problem. So count me in!

I've been heads down busy for the last few weeks, finishing up four recording projects - one in particular we just had mastered today. So it's done. I'll have a few with me for this event - and I am really looking forward to it!

I posted a note about the new album (Cross Over the River) and linked some samples to the thread. I'll rotate the samples as time allows - this album was a true labor of love, and I must say I really love it. It's not a Paul Mills production, but the production is good - and I really love the music. I hope y'all do too.

Looking forward to seeing all soon - even Kendall in a toga!

I'd LOVE the motorhome! I figure it's pretty nice and airy, and there's going to be a fight for sleeping space on Mary's ground floor, if not actually in the basement. I've never actually been in her basement, bit I'm guessing the bodies are pretty well tucked away and it's probably cool down there.

All will be answered by midnight tomorrow night. Sorry but I have had a bitch of a flu and lost interest in life for a while. Almost back to normal now.

Jed Marum will appear at Deborah Coward's home in South Portland. Directions to be announced by tomorrow.

Friday - Jed Marum. $15 to Jed. Pot Luck appreciated. Plan to buy CDs and bring pennies for Mudcat jar.

Saturday - Lobster Boil at my house. $10 per lobster. Pot luck appreciated. Wine, beer, soft drinks provided. Bring lobster forks and crackers. There are never enough.

Sunday - Seamus Kennedy. $15 to Seamus. Plan to buy CDs. Bring pennies for the Mudcat jar. Pot Luck appreciated. Soft drinks and light buffet pre-concert. After - the usual. Maybe we will order pizza. Outdoor chairs also appreciated in case we move this outdoors.

Out of town guests - we have beds. Maybe not total privacy but a bed of your own.

Felipa - you are welcome to join us for the whole weekend. PM me.
Mary

Sinsull-

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather.

If you're feeling adventurist this Satuday, you and your pals could join us for the Roll & Go concert in Bath at the Winter Street Church, details on the Roll & Go website. We had a great time at First Parish in Portland last Saturday but your voice was missing from the chorus.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Very sorry, Charlie. I planned to go with the ladies from the Portland Harbor Museum. Still not feeling well but I did find a supply of Roll'N Go CDs at the museum this AM so I guess you and Linda connected.
Nice to hear "Outside Track" and Brett's "Sally, Free and Easy" to my morning coffee.

Hey Mary and Jed and Portland buddies,
I really wanted (and was planning) to come to Jed's concert, but at the eleventh hour, John Roberts' concert at the Maine Lighthouse Museum, which I'm in charge of, had to be switched from Saturday the 12th to Friday the 11th (can you believe conflicting folk concerts on the same night in teeny tiny Rockland???!!!). So I will only be able to be with you in spirit. Sing one for me, Jed. Hope you have a great evening and a sellout crowd at Mary's.
Mary, please feel better immediately! You "not interested in life" is too worrisome to contemplate!
Hugs to all, and hope to see you soon. Kathy

Yes Mary, be healthy and hearty sooner!

By the way; I'm traveling light this trip. If there is a spare guitar or banjo that could be pressed into service I would be most appreiative. I have one guitar and multiple tunings in mind.

;-)

see ya

You are in for a treat, my friends.

All the best,

Time's getting short!

I have some good news and some bad news. Bad news is I underestimated my CD needs for the new album and sold out all of the ones I had in hand in NY last week (the rest of the initial run is out for distribution and off to radio). I'm trying to get at least 100 more made right away and shipped to me in Boston - but I may not have any for the weekend.

Good news is; this is a nice problem to have!

There is still a bunch at CDBaby - and more on the way to CDbaby. Here's the link. I gain just as much from CD baby sales as on-stage sales, so no worries about that.

I don;t presume this is an issue for SINSULL's date - but just in case; if you want to be sure you get a copy, please get it from CDBaby.

Otherwise I am ready!!!

Ohh - and there're quick loading sample tracks at the CDBaby link above ... previews, I guess.

Hey!!!
The Ken Doll's already been claimed, and I'm getting the lobster anyway. I probably could be had for a Tim Phillips 5-string violin, but I think you could hire a few high-priced call girls or buy an entire harem of sheep for the amount of money those things cost.

Let's see if I've got this straight. The house concert with Jed is this Friday, and I have the secret directions of how to find the house (Google Earth), all CD's have been previously pillaged and plundered, multiple banjos will be in evidence, pot luck will be welcomed.

Any advice on where to park? At Mary's we just park on her front lawn or on her porch. Her neighbors resent our parking in their driveways for some reason, and the police are said to tow cars that park on the street.

Street parking is only a problem in the winter when the streets have to be clear so that the plows can get through. So far, I have had no complaints from the neighbors - hope we can keep it that way.

Anyone who is sleeping over at my house can come early, settle in and then we'll leave for Deborah's together. I will be designated driver.

For the sake of clarity this is an excerpt from an Email sent to Mary and myself by Deborah.

'We will do a chicken curry, a chicken casserole, rice, and a couple of vegetarian quiches. If folks ask you what they should bring, I would suggest: crackers and cheese, fruit, salad, bread.'

Beer and wine would also be welcome.

I'll call you later tonight with the exact details. Looking forward to seeing you all, layer cake sets seem to have survived the ministrations of the luggage handlers fairly well, Gammel Dansk and Snaps were purchased in the legal quantities at the airport, all should be okay. Anyway, so, like, I had this major freak-out cuz my modem thingie was making funny noises like that little robot dude from Star Wars was stuck in a duck's ass and somebody was strangling the duck. So, like, I rebooted. This was, like, maybe not the best thing I could have done, because I got it to start, I got the the 'press f2 to do something else really stupid' screen and then nothing. I tried turning the computer off and on with the stupid button a bunch of times, swore at Gateway, then thought, what-the-hell. Turned off computer, UNPLUGGED it, disconnected the stupid modem, restarted it, re-stuck in the phone line, and I'M BACK.

So, like, I'm gonna pack the car, get gas, get some cheese (prolly a really old, stinky Cheddar), and I'm outta here.

God help me - they are all up and happy in the morning even with 4 hours sleep.

Deborah and Tom put out an amazing spread last night supplemented by Jacqui's vegetarian dishes and Jeri's cheeses. We ate, we drank, and Jed sang accompanied by every instrument that walked through the door.

Jed is an amazing and versatile performer. After two hours of songs from his CDs, he was coaxed into some oldies but goodies from the 60s. A song circle of sorts followed. The highlight of it was Big Chuck's granddaughter - beautiful young woman with a voice like an angel.

Then we talked until after 2AM. Those who weren't here were on our minds. Jed refused to deliver the Michael Jackson, Angel of Death to Tinker so here he sits STILL.

And it was nice to hear Jeri, Bigchuck and the younger and more slender Chuckles leading a few songs.

I am very glad we were able to make it to this event. Wonderful concert, wonderful companionship, amazing food. (Jaqui, if you get that recipe I expect you to share it). To tell the truth, while I am often surprised by my granddaughters, Ashleys' rendition of the Blackest Crow just floored me. As far as I know, that was the first time she'd performed it for people. Any rate, I would like to thank everyone for their warmth and hospitality. Any one out there who has not heard Jed is really missing out.

I was a bit surprised when the second half of the concert got sort of pre-empted. I had a good time, though - it was a wonderful concert, and Jed's new songs (as well as the old) are great. I listened to the CD all the way home.

Bente (bfdk) is a joy to be around, makes serious deserts, and she sings extremely well for someone who 'doesn't sing'. She did two songs on Sunday night and hopefully, she'll sing more in the future. The group that usually congregates at Mary's has a way of helping folks brave the 'first time singing' demons. Sunday evening, she also made a decadent layer cake with cake she brought from Denmark, fruit, other ingredients including a LOT of heavy cream. YUM!

It was nice to chat and catch up on things. I believe we all wished Jed could have hung around a bit longer.

OH! My camera was on my bed, where I'd set the clothes I took. At least I remembered clothes.

Final thoughts now that I have finally had a full night's sleep.

Jed is a gentleman as well as a star performer. I can understand why Kendall may hesitate to play his guitar after hearing Jed play it. He simply caresses an instrument and it does wonderful things for him.

The setting in Deborah's upstairs library was perfect for an intimate night of Marum Music. He sang selections from his latest CDs and every request thrown out. And looked so good doing it!

The food was great, the company thoroughly enjoyable. Don't miss a chance to hear Jed in concert.

Thanks again to Mary and Deborah for their kind and most excellent hospitality! It's so different playing in a small room for a few friends then the normal stage setting. There is an intimacy and a "nakedness" that really makes the evening something to remember.

Thanks also to everyone who showed up. The late night chat and breakfast on the following day were just as much fun - and who can forget ice cream and bruises in the old Yankee cemetary??

I forgot to ask for photos! Part of the deal for my "guitar sponsorship" says that I'll collect photos of me playing the instrument in my travels - so if you have a pic or two, would please let me know?? In fact I'd love to see any of the pics - with or without the guitar.

Finally - I asked for help in the Cross Over the River ... help getting out the word about the album to people who might have an interest. I really hate asking but I know a lot of people would like to know about it - and I just don't have any way of knowing who they are or how to reach them. But if any of you know someone who would like the new album, maybe you wouldn't mind pointing them to the album at CDBaby where they can read about it and hear some clips. That link is http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jedmarum6

CDBaby is very good to indie artists like me and they have a special promotion this month which it makes it worth my while to push a little harder for CDBaby sales.

Thanks

I'll have to see what's over at CDBaby. I wonder where Uncle Jaque was, as this latest CD is right up his musket barrel, and Jed would have had a political ally.

Well, one of these days, we'll get each other's politics and beliefs sorted out, if it matters. I think you avoid discussing those subjects in person, and it's probably a good idea since whatever you believe, you're likely to piss SOMEbody off.

But if you make anyone cry, you will have to deal with me!

Tami, if I'd had the least chance, I would have done so, if only for the scientific experiment of finding out which of the picking groups (as listed by Seamus) you belong to.. :o))

Mick, I have to admit that I don't know what LFPS is, pardon my ignorance, and Google was no help here.. But don't you think, somehow, that asking a professional layabout to jump all over people is, you know, asking for too much physical exertion, somehow? ;-))

Spaw, thanks for the praise :-) I'm sure I'd rather have your thanks than a bowl of warm piss anyday :o) And don't be intimidated by Jacqui and Sins, if you've got something on your chest, surely it's better to remove it before it strangles you.. :o))

Jacqui and Sins, do you still have that gorgeous pink, long-legged, long-sleeved, buttons-down-the-front jumpsuit with the mint trimmings and the - ah - physically active rabbits on the back? I think it might just be the right size :o) And I saw a hat.. well, it's probably more like a bonnet, really.. in the second hand shop just the other day which I think would go very well, indeed, with that jumpsuit. I could easily have it dispatched to your side of the pond in time for the Getaway.

Oh, how I wish I could be there..

Best wishes,

Bente

Meantime, back at the ranch...I finally had a chance to listen to Sula. "Face The Foe" is by far my favorite and I plan on learning it for the next Song Circle. An interesting group half traditional/half 60s folk. SOme very talented musicians. Thank you!
Please do not send the pink jumpsuit unless you are prepared to receive a gift or two in return.

Bente, m'love, obviously your Mudcat education is lacking if you don't know about LFPS. This is an acronym for Lane, Fielding, Patterson, and Swan, Layabouts at Large and for Hire. This is a fabled organization here in Mudcatland, which goes back to the early days of the forum. Originally I called it Layabouts at Large. The wee man with the huge moustache, aka El Swanno, aka Dave Swann, added the "and for hire".

One of the things that the computer age has spawned is efficiency of work. Folks always thought the computer would allow more free time. The unintended consequence was that it caused folks to do more in their free time, ignoring the obvious need for laying about. We stepped in to fill the breach. Ever wish you could lay around on your couch, eat chocolate, and watch TV? For a nominal fee LFPS will happily come to your home, lay around the living room, eat your food, watch your TV, fall asleep and snore (for authenticity purposes). In this busy 21st century 24 hour world, Lane, Fielding, Patterson, and Swan, layabouts at large and for hire, will gladly take care of this need. Our motto is It's the least we can do.....Catspaw, aka Pat Patterson, pretty well enunciated our ethos in THIS POST. p.j., wife of El Swanno, had THIS to offer in the same thread.

Our logo was designed by the very gifted Alice in Montana. We are forever in her debt for the design. We comp laying about to her in gratitude for her service.

Originally we had four locations, but we now have a sub office in Berlin, NJ. Rick Fielding has opened a branch office singing with the angels. If you have noticed that your guardian angel responds a bit quicker, it is because Rick has taken the load of laying about off their wings, giving them more time to take care of you. We love you, brother.

I hope this helps you become a more well rounded Mudcatter.
