Subject: Pls invite to (seaside?) club/singaround
From: GUEST,Ian Pittaway

I'm planning to do some solo travelling around England this summer, partly around the coast. I have no definite plans yet, so it would be lovely if any friendly Mudcatters hold or know of a folk club / singaround that is still on in the summer - preferably on the coast somewhere - so I have a club to sing to / listen to in the evening. If so, please give details of club address, night of week, starting time, contact. Cheers.

The Lewes Arms Folk Club runs every Saturday night at the Lewes Arms, Mount Place, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1YH. We're about ten miles north of Brighton.

We are running singarounds on three of the Saturdays in August. On 19th. we have Dearman Gammon Harrison as booked guests; there will still be plenty of opportunity for floor singers and we always start with a few join-in tunes.

Our website is www.members.aol.com/lewesarmsfolk and has our full programme for the rest of the year, plus a map for finding us.

Tootle pip,

Valmai

Sidmouth (Devon) & Broadstairs (Kent) Folk Weeks - 4th-11th & 11th-18th August respectively - both have plenty of opportunities for singing. Shammick Acoustic Session, Combe Martin, N. Devon, 2nd & 4th Saturdays, start 8 p.m. Contact me at tomandbarbara@umbermusic.co.uk or visit the website
www.umbermusic.co.uk/shammick.htm . It all depends where you are in the country and when - I'm sure you'd find a warm welcome at all of them.

Thanks to Kevin Shields on another thread, I'll try making a blue clicky to the Shammick Acoustic Sessions website mentioned above:
Shammick Acoustic Sessions

Also to my e-mail at me

OK, hope that's worked!

And if you decide to come down Devon way, there's also Bideford Folk Club - every Thursday night at the Joiners Arms. The 'official start' is 8.30 but we often start singing/playing soon after 8. We love having visitors drop in and sing/play.

Bideford also has a folk festival coming up from 14th-20th August, which has singarounds and sessions throughout the week.
(Sorry, my blue clicky to the website - which is www.bidefordfolkfestival.co.uk - didn't work. I'll try again when I'm awake.)

In fact, in between Sidmouth and Bideford Festivals you could go to Dartmoor Festival 11-13 Aug. For further information about what's on in Devon - much of it near the coast - try www.devonfolk.co.uk

Do tell us where you decide to head for!

Sue

Are you going to be in Kent? If so I will happily PM you an email address for those who organise the local "What's on" magazine.

For the Mid West of England (including maps) FC and session/SAR are in separate pages -

tell us where you went so we can update records. Some are listed as not in Aug but not all tell me or they may change policy.

Festivals are listed too - and some radio progs.

A very useful thread Ian, must save this one.
We found a nice Friday club last weekend (using Mr Red's Directory) in Mangotsfield near Bristol. And earlier in the year we went to Wheal Dream near the Lizard which was an excellent Sunday Club - never miss Bodmin club if you are in the West Country on a Friday, they sing as well as the Black Diamond!
Happy Travelling!
Ali
