Subject: Violin Exam results........ From: Hawker Date: 24 Jul 06 - 07:34 PM I was very brave on the 4th July and took my Grade 2 Violin exam. 18 months ago I couldn't read a note of music. I passed with a merit. All those of you who think you are too old, you are not. I am living proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks! The examiner described my playing in one piece as spiritual! not sure if that is a compliment or not but I like the idea! News report over, Cheers, Lucy |

Subject: RE: Violin Exam results........ From: HiHo_Silver Date: 24 Jul 06 - 08:31 PM Congratulations on your accomplishment. Wouldn't venture a guess as to your age. Assume you are somewhat older than 18 months. I am well over the hill. In fact much closer to meeting the Grim Repear than I care to think about. However, after years of playing by ear am now learning violin by note. All the best in your endeavour. |
Subject: RE: Violin Exam results........ From: Hawker Date: 25 Jul 06 - 10:33 AM Thanks for the congrats all, I am in my 40s heading towards 50. I guess in some peoples books that is young but I have my lesson with the children at the local primary school - and to them I am REALLY old! And of course I have to wear my glasses now so that I can see the notes!!!!!But it will be useful in a couple of years time when my memory fails me and I can can't remember how the tune goes......that's if I can remember where I keep my music books...... Now, where did I leave that violin?........................ Tee Hee Lucy |

Subject: RE: Violin Exam results........ From: Kaleea Date: 25 Jul 06 - 05:20 PM Jeepers! Maybe there's hope for me yet. Today, when my 20 month old niece & I were watching Sesame Street, there was a child playing "Twinkle Twinkle" on his Violin. I got out my Violin, & proceeded to play the same song for her, which she sang & danced to. Then I let her pluck the strings. It just so happens that this is my best piece. BTW, today, she got the "V" sound for the first time! |
