Trivium: Norman Greenbaum worked in this area (NorCal) as a short-order cook for years, and would get quite upset if someone recognized him and asked about the song.

(I wouldn't want to be associated with that thing, either.)

Cheers,
Michael

The Devil is making me post this:

Judy In Disguise
By: John Fred & His Playboy Band
(J. Fred - A. Bernard)

Judy in disguise, well that's what you are
Lemonade pie with a brand new car
Cantaloupe eyes come to me tonight
Judy in disguise with glasses

Keep a-wearing your bracelets and your new rara
Cross your heart - yeh - with your living bra
Chimney sweep sparrow with guise
Judy in disguise with glasses

Come to me tonight, come to me tonight
Taking everything in sight
Except for the strings on my kite

Judy in disguise, hey that's what you are
Lemonade pies hey got your brand new car
Cantaloupe eyes come to me tonight
Judy in disguise with glasses

Come to me tonight, come to me tonight
Taking everything in sight
Except for the strings on my kite

Judy in disguise, well what you aiming for
A circus of horrors, yeah, well that's what you are
You made me a life of ashes
I guess I'll just take your glasses

The course of young love doth never run smooth[ly].

Trivium: Norman Greenbaum came from the Jim Kweskin Jug Band where he used the pseudonym 'Nero Wolf'.

At a guess, sometime between 1990 and 1994 when I was working for Yorkshire Water. Probably closer to 92.

my neighbour's brother used to sing along to that when he was young...

"I've got a friend in cheese sauce (Jesus)"

My daughter still sings that now, and she's 23 now.

Thanks for getting those links that I screwed up michaelr.

That is certainly a piece of fascinating American social history.

I've been around many rural areas of Canada and had never encountered Jewish farmers until I ended up in my present location. In an area where the farmers are, by and large, of old United Empire Loyalist or French Canadian stock with a more recent wave of immigrants from the Netherlands and Switzerland, I came across a dairy farm which during the Christmas season, has displayed on it's silo a large, illuminated star of David. Somehow this symbol of divesity heartens me.

I once turned a copy of Judy in Disguise into a flower bowl. Vinyl over a heat source used to work really well

Bruno Wolf, not Nero Wolf. Nero Wolf was a fictional detective. Norman Greenbaum was also responsible for "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago." Add "Spirit in the Sky" and that gives him three more claims to fame than I. Not bad.

Bruno Wolf and Norman Greenbaum are not the same person. I believe this rumor orginated on the internet. He was in Dr. West's Medicine Show when he recorded "The Eggplant that Ate Chicago". Whether he is the same person as Dr. West, I can't say.

BTW, Joni Mitchel was never married to the director of "Porky's" either.

Ah, jaysus, pdq! Not knowing any better and thinking it was "totally kewl," I did that to some old vinyls as a young teen in the late 60's! Didn't know anyone was dumb enough to do that to them, anymore! I esp. regret doing it to a red one!
