Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: michaelr Date: 13 Aug 06 - 04:37 PM Trivium: Norman Greenbaum worked in this area (NorCal) as a short-order cook for years, and would get quite upset if someone recognized him and asked about the song. (I wouldn't want to be associated with that thing, either.) Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: Geoff the Duck Date: 14 Aug 06 - 09:41 AM At a guess, sometime between 1990 and 1994 when I was working for Yorkshire Water. Probably closer to 92. Quack! Geoff. |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: GerryMc Date: 14 Aug 06 - 09:49 AM my neighbour's brother used to sing along to that when he was young... "I've got a friend in cheese sauce (Jesus)" My daughter still sings that now, and she's 23 now. |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: bobad Date: 14 Aug 06 - 10:17 AM Thanks for getting those links that I screwed up michaelr. That is certainly a piece of fascinating American social history. I've been around many rural areas of Canada and had never encountered Jewish farmers until I ended up in my present location. In an area where the farmers are, by and large, of old United Empire Loyalist or French Canadian stock with a more recent wave of immigrants from the Netherlands and Switzerland, I came across a dairy farm which during the Christmas season, has displayed on it's silo a large, illuminated star of David. Somehow this symbol of divesity heartens me. |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: Nick Date: 14 Aug 06 - 10:35 AM Peace I once turned a copy of Judy in Disguise into a flower bowl. Vinyl over a heat source used to work really well |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: pdq Date: 14 Aug 06 - 11:39 AM ...what do you do with an unwanted LP by Black flag, Snoop Eats Dog Poop, Babs Streisand or Nirvana... here ya go |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: Cool Beans Date: 14 Aug 06 - 11:59 AM Bruno Wolf, not Nero Wolf. Nero Wolf was a fictional detective. Norman Greenbaum was also responsible for "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago." Add "Spirit in the Sky" and that gives him three more claims to fame than I. Not bad. |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: GUEST,Earl Date: 14 Aug 06 - 12:43 PM Bruno Wolf and Norman Greenbaum are not the same person. I believe this rumor orginated on the internet. He was in Dr. West's Medicine Show when he recorded "The Eggplant that Ate Chicago". Whether he is the same person as Dr. West, I can't say. BTW, Joni Mitchel was never married to the director of "Porky's" either. |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: katlaughing Date: 14 Aug 06 - 12:45 PM Ah, jaysus, pdq! Not knowing any better and thinking it was "totally kewl," I did that to some old vinyls as a young teen in the late 60's! Didn't know anyone was dumb enough to do that to them, anymore! I esp. regret doing it to a red one! kat |
Subject: RE: Spirit in the sky From: Scooby Doo Date: 14 Aug 06 - 02:37 PM I asked for a sensible answear to a question.Since then the thread has had abuse and crap thrown at it.I am ashamedof been a member of this group. Scooby doo |
