Subject: New CD from Cara (UK) From: BusyBee Paul Date: 13 Aug 06 - 04:23 PM OK folks, the waiting is just about over - them Cara lads have a new CD coming out, should be available in September BUT you can hear samples from all the tracks NOW through the website. www.carasmusic.com (Sorry, can't do blue clicky things) Click on "Cara's Music Box" then on the CD cover "The Granary Steps". I have to say that IMHO it's brill, but then maybe I am a wee bit biased - so have a listen and judge for yourselves. Oaklet, Mike and John should be very proud of their work. Deirdre |

Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: chucky Date: 17 Aug 06 - 07:22 AM They are average. A resonable pub band, no more. Stop all this arse licking please. |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Skipjack K8 Date: 17 Aug 06 - 08:29 AM A pub band that is indeed resinable, especially given the squeaky violin outrage of a few years back. I once used resin as a talent substitute, and got my hand stuck to the bow. It's good to smoke, err, so I'm told. |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Skipjack K8 Date: 17 Aug 06 - 08:31 AM BTW, welcome to Mudcat, Chucky. No one seems to have welcomed you so far, most rude. |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Oaklet Date: 17 Aug 06 - 08:51 AM So welcome Chucky. I hope you find whatever it is you are looking for, right here. |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Georgiansilver Date: 17 Aug 06 - 10:27 AM Chucky..could you please enlighten me on where you amassed your talent to judge? You are obviously an authority on the subject of pub bands and arse licking...what else do you know about with such authority please?. Are you a musician/singer or what and where can we hear some of your (what must be highly talented) renditions? Best wishes, Mike. |

Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: chucky Date: 25 Aug 06 - 07:40 AM I did not say they were bad. I just think you folks should show a little restraint in the fulsome girlish glee that you use to decribe them .I have heard they play live twice, and as a fiddler I know that all three of them would struggle to hold their own in an average ITM session. |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: GUEST,KT Date: 25 Aug 06 - 08:20 AM Show restraint? Why? Given the choice between celebrating their accomplishment with glee or making disparaging remarks, I'll opt for the glee! Congratulations, Cara! I can't open the link so I'll have to buy your CD on the blind faith that I'll love it as much as I do the other two of yours in my collection!! KT |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Sttaw Legend Date: 25 Aug 06 - 01:15 PM Irish Thoroughbred Marketing "ITM" - a division of Horse Racing Ireland - was established by the Irish Government in order to promote Ireland as a premier source of thoroughbred horses. Allegedly they are all hung like horses which allowed entry to ITM sessions and they kept up remarkably well so am am told. |

Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Georgiansilver Date: 02 Sep 06 - 05:56 AM CHUCKY..where can we hear some of your fiddling please. Your remark about "As a fiddler" suggests that you are accomplished in your art and as such I would love to compare some of your playing with that of Oaklet. Wait to hear from you. |

Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: ossonflags Date: 03 Sep 06 - 01:19 AM You sound an absolutly fascinating and accomplished fellow/fellowess Chucky and I would love to come and see/hear you. Maybe if in the area you would care to come to my session at "Monks walk" in Beverley ist sunday in the month. There will be sure to be one or two other "average" fiddle players and musicians of Davids and the other "Cara" lads calibre who would be delighted to meet and maybe pick up some advice or a trick or two up from you. Failing this maybe a list of your gigs or the CD's you have made ? |
Subject: RE: New CD from Cara (UK) From: Peace Date: 03 Sep 06 - 02:19 PM Something I realized a few years ago is this: There is a great deal of jealousy in the music business. A great deal of back stabbing, a great deal of under-cutting. Time for people to grow up. Just because someone else is good doesn't mean that you are bad. David is one hell of a fiddle/violin player. Cara does beautiful music. If they do a 'song' I don't care for amongst a bunch I think are great/inspiring/sentimental and tear-provoking, I would have to be a real arse to comment on the song I didn't like as though it was representative of their work. I get particularly disgusted with people who take shots from a bush--that is, under the guise of anonymity (sp?). But something else I realized too: Cara has many good CDs out, and as long as they continue to play and produce music, I will be a happy camper listening to their stuff, and pfffffttt to those who have nasty shit to say about them. One of my all-time favourite songs was done by Lacy J Dalton, and it says it all. Dalton Lacy J. And Sousa Beans "16th Avenue" From the corners of the country, from the cities and the farms With years and years of livin', tucked up underneath their arms, They walked away from everything just to see a dream come true, So God bless the boys who make the noise on 16th Avenue. With a million dollar spirit and an old flat top guitar, They drive to town with all they own in a hundred dollar car, 'Cause one time someone told them about a friend of a friend they knew, Who owns you know a studio on 16th Avenue. Now some are born to money they never had to say survive, And others swing a nine pound hammer just to stay alive, There's cowboys, drunks and Christians mostly white and black and blue, They've all dialed the phone direct to home from 16th Avenue. Ah but then one night in some empty room where no curtains ever hung, Like a miracle some golden words roll off of someone's tongue, And after years of being nothing they're all lookin' right at you, And they for awhile they'll go in style on 16th Avenue. Hey it looks so uneventful, so quiet and discreet, But a lot of lives were changed there on that little one-way street, 'Cause they walked away from everything just to see a dream come true, So God bless the boys who make the noise on 16th Avenue. |
