Hiya. I am looking for info on where open sessions may be happening in and around Sheffield, and the S Yorks/N Derbys area in general. I want to get back into the habit of singing/playing with others, so I want to track down the sessions in my neck of the woods with a view to inflicting myself upon them.

Any info on where, when, and the kinds of music, would be most welcomed.

Cheers, Mudcatters!

Hi again.

This club is a few miles South of Sheffield and has been highly recommended to me ....but I have yet to check it out for myself.

A Friend who sings there regularly says it is a very friendly club and is well be worth a visit

Hope this is useful

Dave

It's not the best week to ask as lots and lots of people are away at whitby. Can you be a bit more specific - Irish /English / mixed/ mainly tune /mainly song/ singarounds ?

Hello Foggers, Fagan's on Broad Street in the centre of Sheffield has sessions of various kinds most nights of the week and at weekends. As Old Grizzly says, South Riding Folk Network will help you and possibly Stirrings, the local folk mag. Both on the net. Just Google 'em.

Regards and good hunting

Andy

PM MCfat who has his finger on the Sheffield pulse. I also recommend Kiveton Park FC. Very friendly club; cheap; club bar prices; free grub; free tea/coffee; friendly insults from the MC - what else can you want from a club.

Oh yes - LOADS of car parking!

Rhiannon

Rather anarchic mixed session at the Barley Mow, Bonsall near Matlock every Friday night.

Thanks for all the replies, links and advice peeps. I am actually quite eclectic in my musical tastes, which is why I was not very specific in my initial requests - songs and tunes, English, Irish, Scottish and American, traditional and contemporary.

I like to try a bit of everything and then go back again if I like it!! (Good philospohy for other human activities too.....)

Old time American fiddle tunes session Kelham Island Tavern 3rd monday of the month. Any stringed instrument, no bodhrans, triangles, shakey eggs or other fiendish percussion disasters. If you fancy coming, ring me around 6.45pm that evening to be sure it's on. PM me for my number.
Cheers
Ray
