Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: JohnB Date: 04 Sep 06 - 09:36 PM YES, I will be there for the first time. Flying in from Canada for three weeks, Bromyard is our first stop. Black Belt Caterpillar wrestler, do you know my old mate Alan Crook, who I believe plays snare for Wrigley Head, if so will he be there too? I don't have his email anymore. What are the best places/pubs to be at Bromyard? JohnB |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: GUEST,Rich A Date: 05 Sep 06 - 03:14 AM Hey John, Didn't know you were coming over. Excellent news!!! The Rose and Lion has Hereford Pale Ale which is the best beer in Bromyard. The Bay horse just up the street is also worth looking in at. See you Friday!! Rich |

Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: GUEST,Bernie Date: 05 Sep 06 - 04:17 AM Not much interest then with only a few of you making it this year. Weather forecast looks good (hope that has not tempted fate). I will be there as always. Bernie. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: GUEST,Andante Date: 05 Sep 06 - 03:29 PM I'm sure there will be more than a few. I'm not downhearted. I like BBQ in the rain. Where will the singing session be? |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: JohnB Date: 05 Sep 06 - 06:23 PM OOPs , Hi RichA, I guess I just let the Cat out of the Bag, we were going to surprise you. Forgot that you are a mudcatter and seeing as of how you guys are playing there you would obviously read this thread. So say Hi to the rest. Thanks Pricey, I will see you there and get Alan's email. Must go and Pack, see you Friday JohnB |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: GUEST,Connie Date: 06 Sep 06 - 04:50 AM Andante There's usually a very friendly song session in the back room at the Rose and Lion. I hear, though, that the Holly Tree near the campsite has emerged from its years as an Irish theme pub and is back to being a proper pub again. The new landlord from what I hear is keen to support the festival. That might be a good place to start a new session. Connie |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mr Red Date: 06 Sep 06 - 01:07 PM yea especially as there is a non-festival campsite adjacent. Kings Head and the Queens Arms - or is it the Kings Arms and the Queens Head usually something going on. The Falcon seems to have a running session these days - as well as the official things in the Ballroom and upstairs. Bay horse - not so sure these days. Hop Pole - but it seems hit and miss whenever I drop in Pete Geogheagan may be playing but not if people are smoking - Stevie has RULED! |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: My guru always said Date: 06 Sep 06 - 01:37 PM Fantastic! Even more Catters to meet, please identify yourselves - badges, tshirts, crazy expressions etc...... |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Moses Date: 07 Sep 06 - 03:22 AM I'm going. Just look for someone trying to pitch a small tent with ping-ey bits that won't stay put, in the dark! The Ref's not going, although we'll both be at Otley. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mo the caller Date: 07 Sep 06 - 06:57 AM I've just been on the web site looking for a downloadable programme, no luck. We always dance in the leisure centre on the Sat, then sing some shanties, play some tunes and hear some new young talent on the Sun. Bromyard seems good at the new young talent bit. Who shouldn't we miss this year (traditional for preference)? |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mr Red Date: 07 Sep 06 - 07:47 AM Ceridwen Davies, Bendigo's daughter - she join's in sessions and just occasionally floors everyone as they sit there listening, enrapt. Disgustingly young too. Listed, so look-out for her in concert. website |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mo the caller Date: 07 Sep 06 - 08:46 AM Looks like she's only on on Saturday though. Grrr |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: the lemonade lady Date: 07 Sep 06 - 05:58 PM I'll be there mid Friday afternoon. Not sleeping over tho. Have a cottage not too far away so shall sleep there. Peace, perfect peace. Sal |

Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mo the caller Date: 11 Sep 06 - 10:06 AM Lots of young talent. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mr Red Date: 11 Sep 06 - 10:44 AM methinks the yoof of today have far too much youth than is good for them - I think we should spread it around - and with them starting to outnumber us - they won't notice a bit is missing .......................... |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mr Red Date: 11 Sep 06 - 10:48 AM AND what about Flossie Malavialle, a French Lass with a Geordie accent - and a delivery not dissimilar to Vin. One sassie lassie. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: GUEST Date: 11 Sep 06 - 11:21 AM What a great festival it was this year. I enjoyed that young box player, very, very good for his age. Other highlights include Vin and Crucible. Jim@work |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: fogie Date: 12 Sep 06 - 05:26 AM Lovely weather eh? I liked the Scottish duo on harp and Fiddle- artistry, and saw Flook for the first time ( I've been in hibernation )Showers were nice and hot. Lots of room in the venues. Best weather Bromyard has ever had. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: GUEST Date: 12 Sep 06 - 08:11 AM Showers - nice and hot?!! Which were these? It was a trickle of cold water by the time I found them!!! |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: muppitz Date: 12 Sep 06 - 10:13 AM The showers were THERE, that was good enough for me! I really enjoyed it and if anyone saw any of my sets, I hope you enjoyed them! My highlight was Rachel Unthank and the Winterset (Other than accepting my trophy of course!), I love listening to those lassies. Wasn't the weather during the day good, it normally rains and sets up the inevitable quagmire, however I think I was wearing everything I own for bed, it was a tad chilly by nightfall! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Louisey Date: 12 Sep 06 - 10:25 AM Despite airbed/jumpers/duvet, I was absolutely freezing at night, but lovely and sunburned in the day! I think my highlight was Spiers&Boden, didn't manage to catch Rachel Unthank, I was probably propping up the beer tent :) This was my second festival this year and ever, although my parents are folk-esques, they're not really camping people. I've had such a good time festival-ing, making new and remaking old friends and crisp sandwiches for breakfast. We're planning to go to Sheffield in October and many more next summer! |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Moses Date: 12 Sep 06 - 11:40 AM Great Festival Came back with a cold though. Yes it was a bit nippy at night but wasn't it lovely during the day! Otley next weekend then a bit of a rest........... for a week or so at least. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mo the caller Date: 12 Sep 06 - 12:20 PM Ahha, that's who you are muppitz. Saw you at the Final Sing, you were in good company and we enjoyed it all. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: muppitz Date: 13 Sep 06 - 08:12 AM Thank you very much, although I'm not sure who you are! I wasn't sure if I'd be able to compete, 4 fellas and me seemed like unfair odds when I looked at my itinery, but I really enjoyed it! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mr Red Date: 13 Sep 06 - 08:21 AM Louisey FWIW I have found that air-beds (despite all that air) offer no insulation whatsoever. If you blow them up by mouth they are full of moisture and water is a good thermal conductor. But even pumped-up mechanically it is just as bad. You might consider sleeping on top of blankets above the air-bed. Warm socks are a must - and woollen gloves advisable - keep the extremities warm because the body doesn't in cold weather. Try talking to people who camped at Bromyard when the condensation froze on the zip of the tent - there are many stories. Perfect excuse for lateness for stewards duties. |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: Mo the caller Date: 13 Sep 06 - 08:51 AM I spoke to you after the singing and you said you'd got a few bookings due to winning the Young Singer. Does anyone know who won it this year and anything about them? |
Subject: RE: Bromyard FF 8-10 Sept 06 From: muppitz Date: 14 Sep 06 - 07:32 AM I believe the young lady's name is Liz Hearn, but I'm afraid I don't know anything about her. muppitz x |
