Subject: Maud Karpeles Copy of Bronson For Sale From: Folkiedave Date: 08 Sep 06 - 06:55 AM At the risk of approbation I am brazenly advertising my Ebay sale of Maud Karpeles copy of Bronson "Traditional Tunes to the Child Ballads" in four volumes. Since I hear on Mudcat that Joe Offer is looking for a copy I am hoping to get away with this. And I do want it to have the widest circulation in order to try and make sure it goes to a good home. You can find it here: |
Subject: RE: Maud Karpeles Copy of Bronson For Sale From: treewind Date: 08 Sep 06 - 07:50 AM That link doesn't seem to go the right bit of Ebay. I suggest you simply post the item number, as a means of avoiding long URLs. Not that we can afford it, I'm sure :-/ Anahata |

Subject: RE: Maud Karpeles Copy of Bronson For Sale From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Sep 06 - 02:52 PM Oh, Dave, you're making my mouth water. I suppose £800.00 is a reasonable opening bid, given the current market. I haven't looked recently, but most that I checked a year ago were going for about $200 a volume. If I recall correctly, Debby McClatchy found a set of Bronson at an estate sale not too long ago, and she broke the set and got one volume for about $65. Was it Judy Cook who got the rest of the set? About $200 for the set is all that I can afford, maybe $300 if in excellent condition; so I'm looking for one in "battered but serviceable" condition. Since the price I can afford is so low, I think I'm going to have to live my life without a copy of Bronson. I did sleep in the same room with a copy of Bronson at Sandy Paton's house once, and I think I can be satisfied with that. I hope you will find this copy a good home, Dave. The Karpeles markings make it priceless - a price I can't afford. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Maud Karpeles Copy of Bronson For Sale From: lamarca Date: 08 Sep 06 - 05:40 PM I found volumes 2-4 one at a time, in different used bookstores, each for $45 or less, before the advent of www.abebooks.com drove the prices up. I was without volume 1 for many years, until I bit the bullet and ordered a custom reprint for more than I paid for the other three volumes combined... It's worth it when you're trying to find out where a particular tune came from, or find a more singable version of a favorite ballad! |
