Subject: Lyr Req: 'Telephone' (Scandinavian Dialect) From: GaryD Date: 13 Sep 06 - 10:34 AM Hi Gang!... I'm a Swede from central MN, & there was a number of Scandianavian performers here years ago who sang amusing dialect songs on the radio... one was "Telephone" to the tune of "Honeycomb"... it was by either Jimmy Jensen, Slim Jim (Clarence Iverson) , Yogi Yorgerson, or the Vagabond Kid. I know some of the words, but am missing a number of verses.. part of one of them is: " Vell, I've got a vife & it's kind of funny, she's an ole sour puss but I call her honey.. everytime I come home...there she is on the telephone!... Telephone, Yakkity Yak, on the Telephone All the Time, vat a heckuva life, ven you got a vife on the T. E. L. E... Telephone!.. Any Help out there?.. thanks Gary |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Telephone' (Scandinavian Dialect) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Sep 06 - 02:21 PM Hullo, Old Gary- I think I heard this a long time ago when I lived in Wisconsin, but I can't remember it. People here in California don't talk in fake Scandahoovian accents - it might be politically incorrect... -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Telephone' (Scandinavian Dialect) From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Sep 06 - 07:36 AM I didn't grow up with Scandinavian humor, not being from Minnesota originally, but I became aware of it soon after I moved here. I remember hearing a lot of it on WCCO radio years ago. Remember Maynard Speece? Roger Erickson? Thanks, GaryD, for listing the names of the performers who did dialect songs. I will make a note of them and look for more examples. The tradition is not quite dead. See YANKIN' ON MY YOHNSON, a recent example. Sorry I can't help with the telephone song, though. |

Sorry but that line just went away. It's been too many years. Subject: Lyr Add: THE TELEPHONE (Stan Boreson) From: GaryD Date: 18 Sep 06 - 08:39 PM THE TELEPHONE As sung by Stan Boreson and Doug Setterberg, 1957 Tune: HONEYCOMB written by Bob Merrill (It was a hit for Jimmie F. Rodgers.) 1. Well, I got a wife and it's kind of funny. She's an old sourpuss and I call her honey. Ev'ry time I come home, There she is on the telephone! She talk about this and she talk about that. She always sound like her head is fat, Got a voice like an old trombone On the telephone! CHORUS: Telephone, yakkity yak on the telephone all the time. What a heck of a life when you got a wife on the T-E-L-E-telephone. Telephone, yakkity yak on the telephone all the time. What a heck of a life when you got a wife on the telephone! 2. Hello, Mister Johnson. Have you heard? Promise you won't say a word. You know Mrs. Swenson's mink fur coat? Well, it really came from an old goat! I saw Mrs. Olson yesterday, Spending all her husband's pay, I suppose it's not for me to say, But she's got a head like a bale of hay! CHORUS 3. When it come to gossip, she really shine, Number-one talker on the ten-party line. Got all the news before it's stale, Like when Hjalmar got drunk and he landed in jail. Got the whole town mad with her great big yap. We'd all be happy if she'd close her trap. You can't get a dial tone on our telephone. CHORUS |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Telephone (Scandinavian dialect - Boreson From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Apr 12 - 12:02 AM I decided to make Don Firth's day a few weeks back - he was looking for a Boreson song (Circle of 5ths thread) so I decided to track it down. YouTube didn't have it, so I called Stan! He and his wife looked through the disks he has for sale (StanBoreson.com) and told me where he could find it. I enjoyed it! SRS |
