Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: kendall Date: 14 Sep 06 - 01:06 PM Magnificent, but it's too bad it's electric. Reminds me of an old song,...a ten dollar horse and a forty dollar saddle... |

Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: Little Robyn Date: 14 Sep 06 - 03:43 PM A bit OTT! From a distance it just looks a mess! I might like it on a vase but on a guitar? I don't think so. Robyn (The peasant) |
Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: Sorcha Date: 14 Sep 06 - 04:33 PM I'm a peasant too. I think it is tacky. |
Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: mack/misophist Date: 14 Sep 06 - 04:41 PM Me too. It may be expert work but it's zo overdone it's ugly. De gustibus non disputandem est. |
Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: oggie Date: 14 Sep 06 - 05:11 PM I'm a fretworker and do some restoration of inlay - the work is incredibly high standard BUT I'm not sure that the end result is worth the price I suspect you would have to pay. If I was spending that much on an instrument I would want it reflected in it's sound and performance rather than its looks. I may be a philistine but for me the essence of any craft is it's function, instruments are to played (why I hate them in museums) the aesthetics are secondary and whilst I admire the skill its not for me. All the best oggie |

Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: chazkratz Date: 14 Sep 06 - 06:39 PM There's not enough room on a lyre for this kind of art--and if you are going to quibble, any guitar with the Odyssey inlaid on it is anachronistic, but the guy is a hell of an artist. He really captures the style of ancient Grecian friezes or urns. I think it makes a great--if unaffordable--wall hanger, and might actually sound pretty good. It's at least not a solid body. Subject: RE: The Odyssey Inlaid on Guitar-Incredible From: pdq Date: 14 Sep 06 - 06:54 PM I wouldn't let Pete Townshend near it. |
