The other day I came across someone's message which made mention of Peggy Seeger updating her Engineer song to include other careers.

I have no idea what thread the message was in. I've done searches under Peggy Seeger and I'm Gonna be an Engineer, and so far I've not been successful in finding the message.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Much Appreciated!

Moira

Hi, Moira - I compared the lyrics in the Digital Tradition with those in the Peggy Seeger Songbook, and they're more-or-less the same. No new lyrics in the songbook, but there's this note from Peggy:
...I reworked much of the song when I was asked to sing it at the 1995 Knoxville celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of women's suffrage. The event was the result of the inspiration and work of a group of women lawyers. The new version, "I'm Gonna Be a Lawyer," outlines the problems that women have in the legal field. Opens up all kinds of vistas for female doctors, politicos, professors...

P'raps you saw it in the latest (Vol. 50 #3, Fall 2006) issue of Sing Out!. It's in the "Folk Process" column (p. 88).

Thanks Becky - That's where I saw it. I knew someone on this list would be paying attention.
