i'm looking for some good songs, in gaelic, that i could maybe find on the web somewhere, but i have no idea of names of songs, or good ones, or anything, so if anyone has any suggestions of songs that aren't too difficult, that'd be great!! thanx, bri

Try Clo-Iar-Connacht's site for references to source material and singers. They have the best back catalogue around and an extensive mail order list. Songs are both extremely traditional and modern lightweight stuff. They also carry the standard come all ye singing books. Good Luck.

try albums by Clannad and Altan and The Bothy Band and The Dubliners and some Gael-Linn ones like "Blasta" and "Binn Blasta" and "Realta Conamara", and take a look at the Claddagh Records site, or the Ceolas archive - do a web search on www.dogpile.com. And look at Custy's Music - www.custysmusic.com

It's not so easy to find Gaeliclyrics together with music on the web. At Mary Jane Lamond's site you will find sound samples as well as Scottish Gaelic lyrics for "Domhnaill Antaidh" and "Dan do Shean Ford".
If you do a forum search at Mudcat, you'll find lyrics (which I posted)and ABC/midi (posted by Alison) for Oran na Maighdinn Mhara (Scottish) and An Mhaighdean Mhara (Irish), both beautiful songs.
Liam Hart's song site gives both lyrics and abcs for several songs. I recommend Br¡d Og N¡ Mhaille, a sad love song, because I like it and also because it's relatively easy to find recordings of the song (for example Altan). I've heard Br¡d Og sung in translations too, in English and in Scots Gaelic. I'd also recommend Donal Og at Liam's site, for much the same reasons.
But would you like livelier songs? What sort of subject matter?
I strongly advise learning a song from a good recording or live singer so that you can copy the pronounciation and phrasing. I myself am not comfortable singing songs if I don't have at least elementary understanding/speaking ability, as I suspect how bad I would sound to those in the know.
P draig¡n N¡ Ullach in's "A st¢r is a st¢ir¡n" is a good recording for anyone who wants to learn some Irish songs; the booklet with it includes lyrics and background information. I've also heard Brian O'Rourke's (O Ruairc)"Blas Meala:a Sip from the Honey Pot" book and tape recommended.

I have a number of good (how does one determine that!) Scottish Gaelic songs at George's Songs. They're broken down by category. These are songs I like, and you may not like them. I don't have translations for most of them.
