The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, Maine, is presenting a nautical concert series Thursday evenings beginning at 6 pm:

October 26th - "Coastal History in Song" with Gordon Bok

November 2nd - "Singing Ships" with Bob Webb

November 8th - "History, Humor and Hard Work" with Fred Gosbee

November 16th - "Chantey Sing" with Alison Lee Freeman and Charlie Ipcar

All events include a full dinner and will be held in the timber-framed Long Reach Hall

More information or reservations: 207-443-1316

I think I'll be attending all of these. It should be great fun if you like this kind of music and it would be nice if the Museum were encouraged to do more concert series like this one.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Thanks for posting this Charlie! It's gonna be great fun and a fine way to sepnd an evening.May there be many more.
Please note that Fred's concert IS in fact on Weds Nov 8, not Thursday, as the hall was previously booked. Leave it to him to draw the odd slot!

C.U. there?!

Julia-

Good catch! I hadn't correlated the November 8th date with the days of the week and had assumed all dates were for Thursdays. Unfortunately, I rehearse with Roll & Go on Wednesdays but maybe they would consider a "field trip."

I'm glad to see Fred Gosbee's concert is on Wednesday - that means it doesn't conflict with seeing Andrew and Carole at Mary's on Thursday! Of course, work sort of conflicts with all of the above - but I should get there eventually - and "better late than never"!

Gordon Bok was in fine form this evening, very relaxed, and doing more introductions to the songs he sang that I'm used to hearing him do. He ended the evening with something he called "Collage: Pretty", a kind of stream of consciousness combination of bits of songs and remembrances. And, fortunately, he has a new CD entitled GORDON BOK IN CONCERT with that track recorded so you can hear it as well. The website for ordering CD's is: Click here for website

Next week the artist will be Bob Webb.

Enough is a enough, this is beginning become a "Punch in the Horse" type thread. Know when, to say WHEN.

You may be correct, Guest, whomever you are. I apologize profusely for wasting your valuable time.

Bob Webb did a fine concert, along with special guest Dave Peloquin (Compass Rose and other groups) who has recently moved to Maine from Rhode Island. Webb's a master of the Duet concertina, the minstrel banjo, as well as deliverer of sea shanties and forebitters. And he is always ready to share his knowledge of the background of the songs he sings.

There were only about a dozen paying guests and if attendence doesn't pick up I fear this "experiment" by the Maritime Museum may not be continued.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Cool! I don't know how I missed this thread but I am happy to know that my friends and the MMM are working together again in music. Somebody on the ruling council must have left or died or something.

By the way, the argument about Punch The Horse was the NUMBER of threads, not the number of times A thread appeared. Don't let "Guest" stop you from running your thread Charlie.

Thanks, Brett -

It has been a great series so far, and will continue tomorrow November 8 (the only non-Thursday concert) with Fred Gosbee of Castlebay sharing songs and stories on the theme of History, Humor and Hard Work. There's more information available from Maine Maritime Museum's web site.

See you there!

Brett-

Thanks for explaining more about Punch the Horse; I was somewhat confused, thinking it an oblique reference to "Poor Ol' Horse."

The NEW director of the Maine Maritime Museum is enthusiastic about sea music. We are doing our best to reinforce that enthusiasm.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
