Subject: RE: Mahalia Jackson's Birthday From: Big Jim from Jackson Date: 26 Oct 06 - 11:30 AM What a voice! And even the glare and glitz of TV couldn't hide the warmth and genuineness of her personality. |
Subject: RE: Mahalia Jackson's Birthday From: Bee Date: 26 Oct 06 - 12:16 PM When we finally got a record player (and before we got a TV), in the '60s, the first album I bought was a Mahalia Jackson record for my mother's birthday - she loved Mahalia. The record's still home on the shelf, cover much faded. It was played a lot over the years. |
Subject: RE: Mahalia Jackson's Birthday From: Bill D Date: 26 Oct 06 - 12:24 PM I actually saw Mahalia live in about 1961....even as a young man, I was awed at her voice and 'presence'. I recently found some sound files or her and happily refreshed my faded memories. |
