Subject: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: GUEST,Dazbo Date: 02 Nov 06 - 07:36 AM Apologies if this duplicates an existing thread but I did do a search first, honest! This year's listener's vote is for your favourite ever track (nice narrow field to choose from then!). Listener's Vote Here I've voted for Gallant Hussar by Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers. |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Scrump Date: 02 Nov 06 - 08:25 AM Last year's listeners' vote was for the most influential folk album. I'm not sure whether the winning album was just based on numbers of voters, or whether a panel of experts made the decision, based on thei opinion of its influence on folk music. Conceivably they could have done the latter (does anyone know?) But presumably this year it will have to be simply based on which track gets the most votes, as I can't see any other way of deciding. Very difficult to decide - I'll need to have a think... |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Rasener Date: 02 Nov 06 - 08:44 AM I have voted |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Dave Hanson Date: 02 Nov 06 - 09:07 AM You are only allowed to vote for Kate Rusby, Show of Hands or Christy Moore, take my word. eric |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Snuffy Date: 02 Nov 06 - 09:13 AM Ee, Eric, that's a reet bugger. But at least it's better than having to vote for Blair or Bush or Paisley or [insert name here] |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: gnomad Date: 02 Nov 06 - 10:11 AM I thought Eric would be right, or near enough right, but not so, it seems to be an actual "You choose your own favourite" vote. As the adjacent tag says [about something else] there's a first time for everything. I'll have to give it a think. |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Scrump Date: 02 Nov 06 - 10:21 AM Since it doesn't say I can't, I might as well vote for one of mine, as no-one else will. Or is that wasting a vote, like voting for the Loony party in a safe New Labour or Tory seat? Still trying to work out how the hell to decide which one track is my favourite. I like a hell of a lot of them! |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 02 Nov 06 - 10:29 AM If you've ever workrd out your eight desert island discs, you have a short list. |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Scrump Date: 02 Nov 06 - 10:32 AM I never have worked that out, I don't expect to be on a desert island in the foreseeable future, and if I do, I doubt very much I'll find a gramophone there, knowing my luck :-( |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Paco Rabanne Date: 02 Nov 06 - 10:47 AM Just vote for Kate rusby eight times..... works for me! |

Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: GUEST,Dazbo Date: 03 Nov 06 - 03:09 AM Naughty Ted! You'll have read, no doubt, that repeated voting or block voting for a track/artist will get them barred |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Paco Rabanne Date: 03 Nov 06 - 03:17 AM And what pray tell, are the chances of that happening!!! |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Dave Hanson Date: 03 Nov 06 - 04:11 AM Keep up the good work ted, though the laws of inverse proportions may apply. eric |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Scrump Date: 03 Nov 06 - 06:17 AM So the way to remove someone you don't like from the running, is simply to vote for them a few times from the same email address. This seems a bit too easy! |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: GUEST Date: 03 Nov 06 - 09:44 AM Martin Carthy, Famous Flower of Serving Men is one of the best ever. |
Subject: RE: BBC Folk Awards: Listener's Vote From: Les in Chorlton Date: 04 Nov 06 - 03:04 AM Rock Road to Dublin - Luke Kelly & The Dubliners. Hal an Tow - The Watersons. Brig Fair - Joseph Taylor. OK, I give up it cannot be done. |
