Live and Local Events are presenting the first Live & Local Weekend on the 9th - 11th March 2007 at the Boar's Head Hotel in Middlewich, Cheshire.
A full weekend of music and entertainment with both local artists and guests from further afield, and featuring Middlewich Open Mike at its traditional time of 5pm on Saturday afternoon.
Further details will be announced nearer to the event.

Latest News: Also confirmed are Calico Jack, Dominic Collins, Roberts & Webb, Andy Roscoe & Ian Norbury, The Trent Vale Poet, Richard Faulkner and Cheshire's Poet Laureate for 2007, Jo Bell. More to be confirmed soon. Isambarde have also expressed an interest in joing us over the weekend (tbc asap).

The much travelled troubadour Mr Phillip Maddocks, now returned to his native Cheshire, has a spot on the Saturday afternoon I'm told.

Also, there is going to be an auction of music memorabilia (and some other stuff too) during the evening session hosted by one half of the Boar's Head's resident quizmeisters.

And on the subject of quizzes, the regular Boar's Head quiz (or BHQ if you prefer) will still take place on the Sunday eveing of the weekend but it will have a special Live & Local theme. Not to be missed. Oh no.

Indeed. One of the artifacts on offer at the auction is the original, much sought-after, 'Salt Town Poets' signboard which became surplus to requirements when the STPs disintegrated amid much confusion last year. This is expected to make over 20p (although some experts think the estimate a little on the high side) but there are, I know, a lot of other even more wonderful things on offer. And it's all in a very good cause.

The next MIDDLEWICH OPEN MIKE NIGHT is on Wednesday the 21st February.

And those of you have been counting (and had, like us, lost count) may like to know that this is the 42nd MOM Night.

If you add this to the 90 Poetry & Pints Nights we did previously, we make that 132 monthly sessions, not counting all the additional bits and pieces we have always done.

And that's a lorra lorra sessions.

Make no mistake, we're the original and (we like to think) the best.

This will also be the last MOM Night before this year's BIG ONE!!!!!

That's right - MOM 43 will take place at the traditional time of 5pm on Saturday 10th March as part of the brand new LIVE & LOCAL WEEKEND, during which we'll all be giving our services FREE OF CHARGE and making massive amounts of money for the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit at Leighton Hospital.

We hope that everyone will come along to support us as we revive the true spirit of folk music in Middlewich.

Update:

The legendary Monologue John and his partner Dorothy, who now work together under the name 'Song & Story', will be at the event on Sunday 10th as part of the 'Live & Local Showcase Part 2'.

A group of L&L supporters are planning a cycle ride around the Cheshire Ring this summer to raise yet more funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support Unit at Leighton Hospital.

The flyers and posters, kindly supplied by a local printing firm, are now available. If anyone would like to help with distribution please send a PM.

What a great weekend of music and fundraising the first but not the last Live and Local event turned out to be. A great deal of money was raised for the Macmillan Cancer support unit and a great deal of good music was enjoyed by all

It was, indeed, an excellent weekend and the first of many.
We raised just under £1700 at the Charity Auction and over £700 from raffles and we hope that, with various other monies from collections and CD sales etc, the grand total will be over £2500 which, when you consider that the whole thing was conceived, planned and run by just a few people at just one pub in Middlewich is quite an achievement.
The money is going towards the setting up of a cancer support unit at our local hospital, Leighton, near Crewe which will mean that cancer sufferers and their families will no longer have to travel all the way to Manchester for their treatment.
Our sincere thanks to all the artists, supporters and fundraisers who made the weekend such a success and thanks to Mudcat for allowing us to publicise the event
