Subject: Hot Hot Hot Song List From: Azizi Date: 05 Dec 06 - 06:54 AM Maybe because it's getting real cold outside and I'm longing for some warmth, or maybe because I'm a fire sign and this is a fire sign month-for whatever reason-I woke up thinking of songs that have the word "fire" in their title. Since my list wasn't growing fast enough, I started adding songs whose titles and/or lyrics include the word "fire" or included words related to fire-like "flame", or "smoke", or "heat", or "hot". What fire, heat, hot, flame, spark, or smoke songs do you know? I'll start the list in my next post. |

Subject: RE: Hot Hot Hot Song List From: Azizi Date: 05 Dec 06 - 07:03 AM Two fire songs! Hey, you guys are smokin! And speaking of smoking, here's some info about that song "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes": "Album: Best Of The Platters Date: 1958 U.S. Chart: 1 U.K. Chart: 1 This was written in 1933 for the musical Roberta, starring Bob Hope. The lyrics were written by Otto Harbach and the music by Jerome Kern. In 1934, four different recordings charted: Paul Whiteman #1, Leo Reisman #3, Emil Coleman #4, and Ruth Etting #15. This version by The Platters is on the Hearts in Atlantis soundtrack. Nu Colours recorded a version that is featured on the Four Weddings And A Funeral soundtrack, and this song also appeared in the film Always by Stephen Spielberg. (thanks, Jocelyn - London, England) Although The Platters recording has become the definitive version, recordings have been made by Artie Shaw (1941), Harry Belafonte (1950), Sarah Vaughan, and others. The group Blue Haze remade this in 1973. Their version hit #27 on the US Chart. The Jerry Garcia Band recorded this for the 1995 Smoke soundtrack. Director Wayne Wang made a video for the song featuring the band and Ashley Judd, one of the movie's stars. This was used in the finale to the 1995 season of the British drama serial London's Burning, which led to cast member John Alford scoring a UK hit with it in February 1996. Alford's version reached #13, which is below the chart position achieved by the Platters, but ahead of versions by Bryan Ferry (#17 in 1974) and Blue Haze (#32 in 1972)." http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2449 |

Subject: RE: Hot Hot Hot Song List From: Azizi Date: 07 Dec 06 - 07:29 AM Some non-example comments: Looks like Jim Dixon is still winning the blue clicky award-not like any such contest was declared. But I'm just sayin... ** When I was speculating on a source for the Red Hot children's cheerleader cheer, I overlooked number 6's 05 Dec 06 - 11:31 AM post which mentions "They're Red Hot" by Robert Johnson. ** I appreciate folks posting song lyrics. Am I the only one who isn't familiar with many of these songs? At some points in time I'mma spend quite a bit of time away from work I'm supposed to be doing to look up those songs without lyrics to see what they are all about. But alas and alack!, this won't be time spent during my "real job" since for reasons I've never figured out, for the last four months, access to Mudcat has been blocked at my workplace. ** Have I overlooked any song examples on this thread that include YouTube or other video hyperlinks [besides the ones I listed]? If there are no others such examples, what's up with that?? Are alot of Mudcat Members & Guests still on dial-up? I know when I was on dial-up, I couldn't even think of visiting a site like YouTube. Is that the reason folks aren't posting YouTube examples? If not that, why not? ** Be that as it may, a big THANK YOU to all for listing your examples any way. Best wishes, Azizi |

Isn't it good, Norwegian wood? She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair I sat on the rug, biding my time, drinking her wine We talked until two and then she said, "It's time for bed" She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath And when I awoke I was alone, this bird had flown So I lit a fire.
